But people are not starving and dying needlesly in germany.

Proof?

Proof of what? With the current system in Germany people cannot starve, they will always have enough money to eat on.

That's not proof that people 'are not starving and dying needlessly in germany'. Where's your proof?

You wouldn't need proof for that since it would only be a thing you heard about if it actually happened. It's just something that doesn't happen. But peace to that.
And the medical system? How many poor people die every year because they don't have any cash or have to rely on your crappy health system? Many.

OK, so you have no proof. Got it.

99.9% of Germans die needlessly. 99.9% of Danish people die due to starvation.

Keep trolling trolling trolling...

The fact is, that the first 7 pages of googled "starvation germany" only shows wwII related material. But admittedly i just scanned it, but wouldn't you believe it got some attention if people starved in germany?
Besdies, any day a person in germany can walk down to the social office and get help if he doesn't have any money.

I think it's so common in Germany that nobody even bothers on reporting on it too much anymore.

Alright, proof? You've lost the debate, just admit it.

It's just the fact that you trolling just because you don't have anything to add makes you seem a tad desperate.
Happy?

Listen Forsythe ... you won't get anywhere with him. I have a few good friends from Germany, and under their system, the basic needs are pretty much always provided for. That's not the case in the US. There may be some who spend all their money on drugs and starve, but that number is miniscule, especially compared to the # living in poverty here in the states. I don't agree w/ the German system of government, but the Germans like it.

I'm quite the atheist but some of Jesus' teachings we'd all do well to live by:

"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

I much prefer the "give a man a fish - he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime"
IMO it epitomizes what we as a society and Government need to do. No, not just give everyone a college education - but teach them that survival is of themselves. This entitlement type mentality has gotten out of control and people seem to expect someone else to take care of them instead of taking care of themselves.

Now I have no problem helping people who are going through rough times and need help but this generational poverty won't be solved with more handouts - it can only be solved by giving people the incentive to "go fish" themselves.

I'm not poor, but I do want more stuff. Give it to me, or I'm going to track all of you down and rob and rape your womenfolk.

Hey, if it works for the poor, why can't it work for me?

I do, too. But, as usual, you completely missed the point.

How about some solutions?

Our nation has spent billions on social programs and the situation has yet to change.

There seems to be two types of people:

Those that want to milk the system and will take whatever handouts are available so they don't have to work.

Those that want to get out of their situation and will sometimes turn down handouts to prove that they can get out of their situation on their own.

Unfortunately it seems that there are far more people taking advantage of the situation. I'd much rather see less money be spent on social programs that hand out money. Instead I'd like to see money being handed out only when people achieve certain educational and employment goals. Meaning someone who doesn't have a GED gets money so long as they prove they are going to school and passing their classes.

And what "point" do you think I missed? I read your post and offered a teaching I prefered.

You have to be a little slow to comapre the way things are now to the way things were 80 years ago. This isn't 1925, but if you long for the good old days, China is 80 or 100 years behind us. Maybe even some countries in Africa would work out for you?

As far as my friend goes, you only know what I told you. He can't get a real job because of his back so what do you suggest he do? Take to begging?

You're not understanding.

I'm pointing out the way advancements in technology have changed (for the better) the situation of those who are considered the "poor" segment of society

Let's start with a healthcare program for small business owners that make less than a certain amount per year.

For example, my brother has been running a small grocery store in a neighborhood that I grew up in for the past 10-15 years. He hasn't had health care durring the duration of that time. Good thing, he hasn't had health problems either. I mean, it doesn't even have to be hand out or anything, he can pay a monthly fee or something. Just a program that will give him and others that are in the same boat a piece of mind.

It surprises me that people are so blinded when it comes to the poor. Ignore the poor and guys we all suffer.

The poor are the next criminals. That means your wife/daughter/son and even you will probably get robbed/raped and beaten if the poor continue to stay at or below poverty level. Who commits most of the crimes in America? Is it the rich? It's the poor. It's the people that have nothing to lose. Hell if I was poor what's going to happen to me if I pull you out of the car and put a gun to your temple? Nothing, because I'd have nothing to lose. Somebody with nothing to lose is a very dangerous person. The poor children you see today are the ones that are going to be our next criminals and you and your children are their next victims. Rich or middle class it doesn't matter.

Crime leads to doing time. It cost $32-35,000 a year to house a criminal. That money comes out of our taxes. We are the ones that pay for their housing, their food and other amenities that they need to survive while in jail. Has anyone looked at the prison population lately? It's escalating at an alarming rate. In the near future it's going to cost a fortune to house these people. Are you willing to have your taxes raised so we can house these inmates?

I mostly vote democrat but I'm far from being a liberal. In fact I don't agree with the liberal way of thinking. I guess you could call me a democrat with a very conservative view point. People shouldn't expect handouts from the government, but on the other hand I do believe that if people need assistance then the government should be there to give it to them. But it needs to be limited. I go to college and I work hard. In fact, I worked 2 jobs this summer- 88 hours per week. I believe in hard work, period. Getting back to my viewpoint on crime, I agree that if a person commits a crime they should do the time. I also agree with some capital punishment to a certain extent.

What I'm trying to say is we need to be proactive instead of reactive. I'd like to find ways to combat poverty at all levels but that's not happening under this administration. More people than ever are sliding into poverty and mark my words we are all going to pay the price in the near future.

Most of the poor aren't criminals, just that criminals give the poor a bad name. Many poor just haven't figured out how to do better or rejected selling out to the man to better themselves. Some are lazy, but most college graduates are lazy, otherwise why put all that effort into a degree? Many of the poor got that way from a drug habit that they can't support, but not all or even a majority. The middle and upper classes have some of the same characteristics and some of the poor got that way on the way down. Fate is often the agent. I have family and friends (and who do we know more about?) on both sides and don't see that much difference. The poorest are often the best educated and the wealthiest are almost always the ones with the least formal education. The ones with the most education seem to fall someplace in middle class.

When the poor are part of the drug culture or are addicted to tobacco, any sympathies I may have erode very quickly.
