Ignore List.

I frequent another large forum which has an "Ignore List" option. You simply add a username to your list and then you never see their posts (or threads they may start) although you can see replies to their posts.

It seems to me that this would be an excellent way to at least clear the water a bit in certain forums. I know common wisdom is just to ignore the trolls, but this invariably fails since not everyone can steer clear of the "reply" button (I myself am guilty of this).

Hehehe it's like all PC's are equipped with Auto Reply

Have to get an option to turn that off like the switch under Dash boards to stop passenger Air Bag from deploying. Don't want to hurt the children

If you do not have the disipline to control your actions, then you must accept the consequences there-of.

Also, every once in a while a troller will generate a decent post.

True, but the main point of my suggestion is that it would (IMHO) greatly decrease the amount of hostility on the forums.

I'm all for it. IMO Fausto is right. It would reduce the hostility and also, IMO, keep posters on topic since they'll be focusing on the OP, not flames.

But it would keep most from seeing your posts, BBond.

They don't read what's posted anyway. They've admitted it repeatedly. They ignore the truth when it's posted. So what's the difference? Let them remain in the dark if they so choose. I'll enjoy the benefit of being able to ignore their tired, illogical, comletely false, dogmatic, "faith based" replies.

You've been here four weeks and you're picking on BB? Returning banned poster much?

Fausto, that's a perfect example of why your idea should be seriously considered and, IMO, implemented.

Ummm...it's called sarcasm.😕 It was an obvious fun little poke with no mean intentions intended. Mr. BBond took it in stride but you got bent out of shape.

Usually, a n00b taking potshots at someone = returning troll with axe to grind.

My apologies. 😉

Whatever.

A suggestion. The ignore option should include the ability to turn "ignore" on AND off. Just in case. 😉

Right. In the other forum I referred to, you just delete a name from your list and update it. Some people do eventually redeem themselves.

I like the idea, and think it could help relations in a certain *cough* forum *cough*.

It would be nice sometimes, but I might miss laughing at lame posters.
So you take them off the list for a while, mock them, then re-ignore them when they start to get on your nerves. Simple

This would also conceivably take some burden off the mods since really obnoxious posters would effectively ban themselves once everyone IL-ed them.

The thing is, with an ignore list, things would get QUITE confusing at times.
Doing away with the huge thread nests would fixt that. That needs to happen anyway.

Hell, I don't care about P&N. That's like a monkey cage anyhow, you just throw the trolls in there and let them throw feces at each other. 😀
