Ignorance about marijuana...

Just a few medical facts about cannabis abuse.

Edit: Note that, since marijuana is an illegal drug, any use is considered abuse.

* Effects on central and peripheral nervous systems: Cannabis-induced cerebral atrophy or neuropsychological impairment remains a controversial diagnosis. Chronic effects of long-term marijuana use may be related to marijuana's significant fat solubility resulting in high blood levels of the drug after extended use. Marijuana-induced seizures have been described. Studies using simulated driving and flying situations have shown that the use of cannabis has a profound effect on estimations of time and distance and causes impairment of attention and short-term memory. These effects are still discernible 24-48 hours after use of the drug.

* Effects on respiratory system: Cannabis smoke contains carcinogens similar to those found in tobacco smoke, and chronic heavy marijuana use may predispose people to chronic obstructive lung disease. Some studies indicate that pulmonary neoplasms are more common among habitual marijuana users; however, confounding by cigarette smoking limits the interpretability of some of these reports.

* Effects on cardiovascular system: Acute intoxication may induce tachycardia and orthostatic hypotension.

* Effects on reproductive system: Marijuana has been linked to infertility. In vitro studies have reported abnormal cell division and abnormal spermatogenesis resulting in decreased sperm counts; however, the effects of marijuana on human fertility remain unclear. In females, marijuana use may increase the number of anovulatory cycles. In males, marijuana use may cause a decrease in follicle-stimulating hormone, resulting in a decrease in testosterone production and, possibly, testicular atrophy.

* Effects on gastrointestinal tract: Marijuana has known antinausea properties and the use of marijuana has been permitted for the treatment of nausea in some US states for this reason.

* Ocular effects: Injected conjunctivae may occur.

shhh, I'm going somewhere with this

No you're not. I thought about that argument as well and every possible branch of conversation I could think of was a dead end for this argument. There's no way you can compare a substance that you buy that your body NEEDS to survive with another substance that you buy that your body doesn't need at all with any real common ground in this conversation.

Somewhere along the lines of you could cook a cheap meal at home, so why would you go out to a nice restaurant and waste your time waiting and pay a lot of money to get food? In the end, it's all coming out in the same form and from the same pipe

Huh? That is not a good analogy. It would apply to the quality of pot you smoke. Why smoke expensive mondo high quality unpolluted stuff when you can smoke the cheap crap and still get high?

Losers smoke pot, I agree. Anyone else with common sense realizes there's no need to waste time or money on such a thing.
Bill Clinton smoked. Many very recognizable people smoke(d). Many VERY successful people do much harder drugs than pot.

Thoes people you know are just losers, the pot has nothing to do with it.

Same sentence could be applied to video games, fast new CPUs, rims for your car, big screen TVs, etc...

I knew someone would respond with that. The difference is I have something to show for it. All pot smokers have left is an empty wallet and the thought of when and where they can get more money so they can buy more weed. The rims on my car last, look good, and get compliments. I can play video games over and over and my LCD screen isn't being smoked away. There is a difference.

My wallet is not empty. I have a great job, and a degree in Accounting. Been smoking for almost 10 years now, since the age of 19.

I have all of that and more. I also smoke, drink and drive fast, and still have money left over. I also have a better education and a better job than you.

Right, cause you know me. Your response rivals that of a young child.
I don't need to know you.
Your initial post was equal to that of what an idealistic young child would say.

So were even.

note: "abuse"

I love the people that defend weed on the basis of "it's not your business what I do". These people will then turn around and defend other nanny state things such as public smoking bans and the like.

bullsh*t

abuse comes from overuse

Cool, take it up with the guy who wrote the case report, I left his name at the bottom. The case report is about acute intoxication, as well as chronic use.

EDIT: Abuse, in medical terminology, is defined as the misuse or wrong use of a substance, as well as excessive use.

Exactly. I know a number of people who only take a few puffs here and there, never smoke a whole "bowl," or joint. In fact I did that last night before hitting a bar, two hits off a pipe, saved the rest for later.

there, see it's good stuff

Indeed...

Cheers Mosh - I was needing that.....Now I'm nice and relaxed - I'm learning to rise above these people who are spouting rubbish and taking their opinions from one-side reports and bodies who say "drug's are bad....hmm'kay"

As with ALL legal standing there are going to be groups of people who decide what to do themselves. Considered by some as non-activist Anarcists.

As long as you are not hurting anyone else, or affecting them in a negative way then do what you want.

I am a regular user; Yet I have never hurt anyone, stolen anything, it's never affected my work nor my social life. My personnal plans and goals are in action - plus I get moment of insperations

I don't have an opinion on the matter one way or another, view it how you like. However, some of the symptoms listed are from acute onset, and some are chronic. The report designates which symptoms are from chronic use (i.e. "chronic heavy marijuana use..." and "acute intoxication may induce...")

Note that not all listed symptoms and effects were bad. I was just providing information that, otherwise, may be unatainable for some. I've smoked pot, I drink alcohol. Neither are good for you, though marijuana has some noticable antiemetic effects. Once again, I have no opinion on the matter, I was just providing information. No need to argue what was presented.
