Exactly, sword play is easy and running and jumping suck. inFamous did parkour right, I rarely remember getting frustrated from getting stuck on something, AC4 I'm constantly getting annoyed with me getting stuck somewhere I didn't intend to.

Sounds like me and Borderlands. 100% guaranteed I will find every single perfect spot on the map to get a vehicle stuck within 10 seconds of getting it and have to walk all the way back to the vehicle place to respawn it.

Game of the Year for me would either be Tomb Raider or Bioshock. I was blown away at how well Tomb Raider was made. The enviroments and gameplay were fantastic.

Bioshock had the best story of any game I have ever played. Also the AI character was the only person I have ever cared about that I think really became part of the game for me. She always gave supplies at the right time and was never stuck in a stupid place like all AI characters do to bring me out of the game. It was almost like I was in co op mode with a good friend.

Zelda is great but I did not like the rental system. Thought it was kind of boring. Def don't want it in another game. Still loved playing it though. ALTTP is still my fav game of all time and it was nice reliving that experience in new dungeons.

Super Mario World 3d is good but did not blow me away like Tomb Raider or Bioshock did. I think Mario Galaxy is better game IMHO.

Assassin's creed never really fixed the climbing mechanics after ACII. The ones in the original game were even worse though.

The rental system was a non issue for me in Zelda. I grabbed everything at once and permanently purchased everything first chance I had.

That is exactly what I did. Just thought it was kind of boring. Even the upgrades you get were kind of worthless. Outside of the master sword and master cores of course. Felt like I was grinding to get more money than actually going on an adventure. It did force me to explore every nook and granny for chests and more money.

Rayman Legends sounds like the biggest snub to me. As a platformer, I liked it better than Super Mario 3D World because Legends had tighter controls and seemed more innovative and "fresh" compared to 3D World.

Putting that aside, 3D World is my favorite on the list and Zelda is the only other game I liked. (Didn't play Device 6, Tearaway, or Last of Us.)

Tomb Raider seemed to have potential, but I couldn't get past the stupid QTE's. (I played on PC and I heard the QTE's were buggy as hell on PC, so I stopped playing about an hour in after watching the same QTE cut-scene about a dozen times.)

Funny enough, most the QTE's for TR are at the beginning of the game with just like a few more that aren't nearly as bad in the rest of the game. I hated the QTE's myself but they went away pretty quickly and all was good then. My only complaint about TR was the lack of tombs. No real tombs and puzzles 🙁 . Other then that, the game was very good and I liked it a lot.

Tomb Raider without tombs, Final Fantasy without fantasy...

What's this pattern...

Next thing you know there will be a Call of Duty without guns!

I haven't played a ton of games this year but of the ones I have played I enjoyed these 4 the most. Not sure what order I would put them in though. Last of Us got a lot of hype and I enjoyed it but not sure I would call it the best game of the generation. Ni No Kuni was a blessing and a curse for me. A blessing in that it got me back into a JRPG I enjoyed for the first time in years. A curse in that it got me back into wanting to play another JRPG...

Ni No Kuni
Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Bioshock Infinite

And I remember tombs in Tomb Raider!

Yes Ni no Kuni was terrible in that regard. It gives you a taste of the great RPGs of the 90s in a modern form factor then leaves you hanging when you realize there isn't much else like it after you've finished it.

Its a glimpse of how the classic JRPG experience can be brought to the modern generation, which just pisses you off that its not done more often when you see it done with such grace. Flying around that world map, oh how I've missed that.

And that soundtrack is to die for.

Ni no Kuni was magical and made me feel warm and fuzzy in a way I haven't felt since the SNES and PS1 were still in the store.

I did not realize Rayman was a 2013 game. Yeah def better than Super Mario World. Just a much tighter and more fun experience. Can't believe it did not get a nod.

i didnt play all of those on that list but i really dont think any of them could be better than The last of Us. Bioshock Inf does not belong on the list. id vote for Tomb Raider to come in second. if it was a PC only list TR would be my vote

Is it any different than Rayman Origins? As I did not like that game.

I think you mean Call of Duty without calls/duty 😉

what about call of duty without annoying 12 year olds yelling all game? inconceivable.

Was farcry 3 a 2013 game? I enjoyed that quite a bit. AC4 might be my game of the year though. Tomb Raider and Infinite up there as well, but infinite didn't last long enough.

I've been playing last of us..and I don't get the hype. I liked BI and TWD more. A story based action game shouldn't take 3+ hours to "get you into it"..that and the controller based shooter aiming is horrid.
You sound just like me when it came to the game. The combat got old for me too, so I wouldn't say it is my game of the year. I can see why people enjoyed it, but it was a miss for me.

Tomb Raider was the surprise to me this year - really enjoyed it.

Loved Bioshock Inifinite as well, and giving Last of Us the #3 spot.

Almost done with this game. It was a pleasant surprise. Very good for the most part. Lara can be a bit annoying, mostly because of both her voice actress and dialogue. There are WAY to many QTEs. But, the shooting and exploration are good.
Yeah the QTEs were embarrassing, as they always are, and patronizing.

That list just shows the sad state of gaming right now

Sad state of gaming? There's some really great games on that list. People always complain about how games suck today well I have no problem finding awesome games to play. The Last of Us is one of the greatest games ever.

My only problem with Ni no Kuni (and I haven't finished yet) was it was made for a younger generation. I wish it was more mature. Other than that, it is probably the game I've enjoyed the best this year. I have gone back to TLoU and just can't play more than a 20 minutes before it just isn't fun anymore. I don't care how good the story is, if the gameplay is awful, I'm not playing. I will read a book; the story will be incredibly better.

Yeah the QTEs were embarrassing, as they always are, and patronizing.

I have no issue with QTEs. Especially when they allow you to interact with the cinematic moment in a game. It allows a developer to engage you in the action rather than just slam you with an FMV of Kratos lopping the head off a Chimera in style every 2 minutes.

Yeah and when people say this I picture a grumpy nerd in his mid to late 30s holding onto his retro collection. Completely unable to move on and try new experiences because suddenly gaming got popular and isn't just for the geeks and antisocial.

Face it, saying you enjoy playing video games doesn't make you a nerd anymore. It's accepted and in many ways cool with demographics that in the past would have looked down on you for it. There's great games for every taste if you open your mind and expand your horizons a bit. Try something new, you'd be surprised at how even the most overused genres can make you feel something.
