Why isn't Romney ahead by a significant amount in the polls?

  • He's a poor candidate and/or he is running a poor campaign

  • The media has been too harsh on him and/or too easy on Obama

  • His positions on issues change with the wind

For one thing, Romney (unlike obummer) has actually run businesses and understands how business works. Instead of just seeking to punish those who accomplish something and vilifying evil corporations, he might be able to get something done.

There is a difference between punishing success and demanding the privileged pay their share back to society. Whether you believe in the role of the federal government to be a skeletal framework for the states to work with, or the greater role of taking care of its people... that should never change.

One can argue the semantics of where the money is going. Budget reforms and departmental reforms... but it is clear that there a lot of cases where the chips are stacked in the favor of very large companies. Oil subsidies, corporations paying their CEOs more than they pay in taxes... etc.

Romney's problem is that he is profoundly shallow. He has no deep empathy for the plight of others because he has never know or suffered real emotional pain. He is morally empty and can take any position he sees advantage in. Unfortunately, that brings us to his second problem, he's a Republican, the party of insane white men who are so far to the right of the average American that to pander for their vote turns you into a piece of shit. The average American, if they can't be blinded by right wing propaganda, has very little use for shit. The race is to put perfume on a pig. Sometimes it looks to be working and sometimes not.

The really fun part is that you can run a morally bankrupt worthless piece of shit for the party of assholes and get almost half the vote.

Stand up and back away from your computer take a deep breath move your head from side to side move your shoulders in a circular motion. Now calmly head for the phone book and look up the phone number for a local Physiotherapist and place the call for help fast.

So you think Romney hasn't flip-flopped on almost every issue?

Words in my mouth? I am responding to moonbeam's totally insane assumptions and theories and I am concerned about his mental condition. I am not a republican Party Member but object to his reference to insane white men well, on second thought I disagree with about every thought that dribbles out of his mind. I like the sig as well
" It may not be so much a matter that I'm far out, but rather that you have never been anywhere" This coming from a nutcase with 47,000 Posts. What, does he have a keyboard taped to his lap as he travels the world in his mind. And now dank I have serious concerns about you.

The entire post you railed against is explaining why Romney flip-flops constantly. Excuse me for thinking that you were upset abot the point of the post.

Did you miss something? I quoted moonbeam and see no mention of flip flopping in his post I see him mention "and can take any position he sees advantage in" and really the poll asks "Why isn't Romney ahead by a significant amount in the polls?"

If you look at Obama's Big Bird bullcrap you can say Obama can take any position he sees advantage in. So is our president a Democratic panderer that can turn YOU into a piece of shit. And this statement from moonbeam "The really fun part is that you can run a morally bankrupt worthless piece of shit for the party of assholes and get almost half the vote" So 50% of the population are assholes do you agree with that. If you think that statement changes anyone's mind in a normal intelligent conversation I have a roll of tinfoil to send you.

I frankly think you should Vote for whoever you please. Just try to be real

The bolded is an explanation of why Romney says one thing and then says the opposite at a later time, otherwise know as flip-flopping. It benefits him to say one thing to hardcore right wing nutjobs, but then when that comment comes back to bite him in the ass with independents, he reverses position on it. This isn't a big secret. Anyone paying attention should know this by now.

Obama's "Big Bird bullcrap" isn't "taking a position." It is using Romney's own position against him. The fact that this has to be pointed out to you makes me question whether or not replying to you is worth my time.

The bolded is a mischaracterization of his original statement. The Republican Party panders to assholes. Assholes being defined as either religious wingnuts that want to legislate their version of morality on the entire population or fuckwits that still think tax cuts will lead to more jobs and lower deficits. That is not 50% of the population and moonbeam does not claim that it is. However, if one wants to win the Republican nomination, one has to pander to those assholes, and after pandering to those assholes one can still expect to get ~half of the popular vote.

The really funny thing is that the Democrats and the Obama campaign used HUNDREDS of millions of dollars to paint Romney falsely and it all went up in smoke in an hour and a half.

Almost as funny is that the sycophant press that has ignored and whitewashed every failure and every misstep and every abuse of this Obama Administration is now eating crow publicly.

Not as funny as the above is that there are so many who bought the shit sandwich of hope and change, who saw their hopes dashed as the changes that have been wrought and the consequences came home to roost are now waking. And they are not happy.

The tide will not be easily turned - sequestration, massive tax increases, wealth redistribution by any number of means, onerous regulation and government by fiat will not end on the first day of a Romney Administration, these will take time to overcome.

Beware the damage that will happen with a lame duck government of Democrats, it will be ugly.

So which one are you that my post offends you so much? The religious dicktater or the tax cuts will work this time I promise chowderhead? I'm guessing chowderhead since you actually think the statement I bolded was a "direct quote."

No, what's really funny is that you may actually swallow that drivel. Romney had one good debate, no doubt about it. That doesn't change the fact he lied his ass off in that debate. It doesn't change his lack of character or that his sole focus in life is saying or doing whatever it takes to get elected. Well that, and to make as money as possible regardless of how it hurts others. You may be kneeling in front of him, but a good half of America still says "No sale." They weren't duped by his smoke and mirrors.

I wouldn't even go that far. Romney had good luck in that Obama was not prepared at all for whatever reason. Romney lobbed Obama a bunch of softballs and Obama looked like he forgot how to swing the bat.

No argument. I could have just as easily phrased it, "Obama had one bad debate." Either way, Romney is the same amoral turd he was before the debate.

dank 69 I am not offended by YOUR posts and never said I was. I am amused. I Would buy a ticket to see you debate Romney. Hell I would buy a row of tickets and bring some friends. Wear the green hat you have in your avatar it makes you look presidential.
With your wit and outstanding use of the English language your insight of politics you would surely be in the spotlight.

dank69 "The fact that this has to be pointed out to you makes me question whether or not replying to you is worth my time"

Replying to me is not worth you time and if I do not hear from you I will take a minute and thank God for that. I am a Conservative

That's not a hat it's an afro and it is gray, not green, because it is made out of brillo pads. :colbert:

So since moonbeam and I are way out there to you I suppose you think it's a good thing when Republicans try to legislate their version of morality? Or is it not their version of morality but the only correct version of morality and therefore common sense? I assume this because if you didn't think this way then you wouldn't be so taken aback by moonbeam's use of the word asshole to describe such people.

Were you pulling for Santorum in the primaries? Perry? Bachmann? Do you have a problem with Romney being labeled as a flip-flopper? What exactly is it that riled you up enough to throw your hat in the ring?

And yet here you and your ilk are, buying another shit sandwich of hope and change with your enthusiastic support of Romney/Ryan.
