I see a new version of Unreal and Quake and Tomb Raider on the horizon. the top software developers have signed with Msoft to write to this platform.

BTW,I saw the nintendo cube(Its not out and wasn't demoed) but the looks of it are the size of a square kleenix tissue box. It could not be any larger than a cd-rom. I have no idea first hand what it will be like. It is as far out as Xbox is before release,so they have time I suppose to build a competitor, but I think they are late to the party.

Take a look here for more info on what is around the corner for Xbox.

I'm personally gonna wait until all three are launched(XBox, PS2, GameCube), and get which is best/has best games. My predictions are as follows: PS2 having the largest userbase, Xbox with the most Developer support, Gamecube rivaling, if not beating the Xbox graphically. I do think that both of the yet unreleased consoles will be very graphically superior to the PS2, but don't count it out, what's out now is nothing comparing to what that system can do.

Oh yea, MS is claiming a 4 Gigapixel/sec fill rate. That's BS. If it is like the NV20, it will have 4 pixel pipelines, and at 250 MHz, that is a pixel rate of 1 gigapixel, and 4 gigatexels. I think they are attempting to take HSR into effect, but simple HSR does not eliminate ALL overdraw, and there isn't always 4x overdraw. How much overdraw do you find in the average sports game?

I mean it's not a mobo in the sense that you will no open up the unit and see a standard mobo, with PCI slots and the like. It will one board with the CPU, GPU and sound all integrated. There are tech diagrams floating around the net regarding this.

<< I'm not sure what exactly you're talking about. The Xbox definitely wont be a progressive scan DVD player, in fact, it wont even play DVDs out of the box unless you buy the remote control (yeah sounds wierd doesnt it?) >>

thanks benchiu for explaining this. I didn't know the part about progressive scan (I heard about the remote thing). I was hoping that the XBox would be able to take a DVD image, deinterlace it, scale it up to 540p, 720p (probably not 1080i) and then output it via RGBHV or VGA (which can be converted to RGBHV with a simple cable as you probably already know). From what you're saying, it sounds like XBox will not be able to deinterlace DVDs. It definitely has scaling features already. How disappointing :(. looks like my only option is the msbtech.com modified Sony DVD player that can output 480p, 540p, 720p, 1080p, etc. Darn.

<< To think anything less is folly. >>

Tripleshot I think you're right. Xbox will probably excel in multiplayer. Supposedly Xbox's can also be connected together via the LAN port can you imagine: 2 Xboxs, 8 controllers, 8 people playing NBA Live all in one room. That would be so cool!

Uhmm, Do you know what a Motherboard is? It's a board with Expansion slots (daughter cards)...
I doubt seriously XBox will have expansion slots, hence it will not have a "motherboard" in it. ;)
dwell is correct saying it will be a single board with "everything" integrated into it. True it might be the size of a "motherboard" with all the goodies it's supposed to have...

Like someone mentioned about the Hard drives getting banged around, I hope it can be replaced with a standard hard drive incase...

To me, a motherboard is something that hosts and routes all data from other peripherals. So if you get right down to it, every console and pc have motherboards, just in a different sense.

Official definition from dictionary.com: The main board of a computer, usually containing the circuitry for the central processing unit, keyboard, and monitor and often having slots for accepting additional circuitry.

You'll notice is only says, OFTEN having slots, but not always. I don't even know why we are arguing about this issue anyways....lol :):D:Q
