Hehe, I put some of the programs he uses the most on the taskbar in my dad's computer so that his desktop wouldn't be so cluttered.

He always double-clicks them, so he always has two windows of whatever program he wants to use.

He (and a lot of people too!) always double clicks internet links, too. I had never seen so many open Firefox windows at once.

You chose to work tech support; if you were expecting anything other than what you're getting, you've obviously been misled.

The people who are competent with computers don't call tech support.

No, I didn't. I got drafted doing this today because half the office called in sick/dead/car blew up/having a root canal...etc.

Good rant :D

oooo the worse.. today I had a customer who called and asked every time "Do I right or left click that" on everything... I finally had to tell her, "m'am just right click, when I want you to left click than do it"

and the worse are people who are clinically deaf who don't bother getting a hearing aid :| they just piss me off

Could be worse. When I was in school, this kid on my floor called me up and told me that he broke his computer and wanted me to see if it was broken. IT guys couldn't get it to work so I went over. The monitor was just off...no apslosions, no broken computer, just off monitor...and the IT guys missed it...

Man, i get this pretty often.

Worst isn't people with hearing aid... worst are the people calling in through the phone relay system (where an operator speaks for them). I'm sure the relay system works great if they need to order pizza or something, but to actually need to provide tech support for somebody, it's quite frustrating.

Try doing support on a relay call. For those of you that don't know what that is, it's when a deaf person calls you using a service that provides them with a person that will speak what the deaf person is typing in their TTY machine. I had to try and get them to enter an initialization string and their machine wasn't displaying things like the & correctly. I almost went postal that day.

Or how about a blind person using a computer that speaks whats on the screen. Or an old man that has to use a magnifying glass to find things on the screen.

My mom did that to me all the freakin time for several years. Finally, I think that she's figured out on her own to left click, and only to right click when I tell her to "bring up a context menu" (might as well learn the proper terms at the same time). She'll probably prove me wrong tomorrow. :(

You should look for a job where you do not have to interact with the public.

lol, those are pretty good. I work tech support (well the help desk to be more precise). The good thing about working internally is that most of our users have some level of compitence. Although I do have to deal with remote users pretty often. But never customers, thank goodness.

I can't wait until you're over 60 and befuddled with new stuff.

Maybe you should show a little patience and respect for your elders.
