If you're not getting good at something you would like, do you give up?

I would love to design webpages and what not, but I don't think I have the knack or something. I just dont' know where this would go, or where to put this shade of brown or what not.

Would you just give up if you weren't going anywhere with it? Even though you like it... would you just give up?

I like to sing, but my voice sucks. I dont care though, I enjoy singing, so I sing.

But thats the ONLY thing I suck at, if you catch my drift....

I mean I would honestly love to just design a webpage and say I did it. Just make it at least a tad bit nice. That's all.

For the website composition, you'd have to look into more of an artistic touch, so you'd need some knowledge on art and the color comparisons. And maybe some psychology to look into where people look for (movement of eyes, orientation of screen, how we perceive information, etc.). And yes, I've given up things I've loved. Like art.

I guess an art class next semester couldn't hurt me. It would help me with my electives.

Just remember that web design does not equal web construction.

As for me, it depends. is the thing i like home open heart surgery?

Take a course in web design. They have color charts that show you what colors work on web pages. You will probably find many in Google.

just keep plugging away and you never know, you might get the hang of it.
kind of like me and my golf game. i can drive the hell out of the ball, but my short game blows.
not going to quit. and i am improving.
persistence pays off.

Just because you're not good at something is no reason to quit it!

It may be a reason to not do it professionally (I and I think many others here you will never find singing on a CD ;)) but there's no reason not to do it for yourself. And with most things, you will improve with practice. Webpages for sure - my first webpages were pretty crappy, but they got better (I'm still not very good with graphics editing, though, so I usually just find free clipart on the net, or suffer through some photoshop tutorial if I have to make it).

One thing that helps is find someone who's good at what you want to do - a teacher or mentor of sorts. Or a group - a class or a community group. That way you can give each other comments & critiques, learn from other people's mistakes, etc.

But don't give up - esp. so early in the process. You might need to readjust your "goals" a bit (ie not "I'm going to be the Leonardo da Vinci of web-design!" but rather "I want to make nice-looking web pages"), but you can do it! :)

I suck at snowboarding on advanced slopes. I just keep failling. I just hope one day I'll figure this bastard out on steeper locations.

I really only do it for say an hour out of every month? And I just dont do it or try again until another month or until I get inspired. I've never truly worked at it and worked at it consistently.

I meant have you been at it for weeks, months, a couple of years?

Well of course you'll never get good at that rate. Go to w3schools.org and start learning!

Thats your problem right there....you dont Think. Start thinking you do and getting a little schooling in that subject, then release your creativity into it.

By the way that should be the formula in just about everything you wish to try.

I gotta give it up for the people who posted in this thread, and also notfred as well.

I thought I would see such posts as "Just find a new hobby, give up."

But all of the posts so far have been really encouraging.

Thumbs up guys.
