This happened to my grandfather -- he was waiting at the airport for his first wife and found out the plane had crashed.

On one hand, it seems really sad; on the other, if that hadn't happened, he wouldn't have remarried to my grandmother and I wouldn't have ever been born, so.
 
FlightAware says "Diverted" and also lists two flights for today, one going to Charlotte and one LaGuardia-LaGuadia. I think we may have an answer

No, the white zone is for loading and unloading passengers only, there is no parking in the white zone.
