If your girlfriend lived 1.5 hours away

Two to three times a month. When my wife was in grad school, she was about an hour-and-a-half away and we saw each other usually three weekends a month. We'd been together for a couple of years at that point, though, so it was pretty serious.

1.5 hours isn't local, its a PITA distance. Its too far to just stop over, meaning you would have to stay all weekend (which you won;t always want to do), and its close enough that you will feel like an idiot about it after a while. I did the 1.5 hour GF thing and trust me, it gets old.

Moreover, if she is a in college it will be a small miracle if she doesn't start looking around. Its only natural. College is like hook up paradise. No where else in life will you find yourself surrounded by so many eligible, attractive persons of the opposite sex, with nothing else to do on the weekends except study, party/get drunk, hook up and...oh...see your girlfriend/boyfriend from 1.5 hours away. I'm not saying you guys won't try, and I'm not saying you won;t succeed. But honestly the chances are slim. I've seen this bug get many of my friends. You're better off cutting her loose now and finding someone closer. Unless of course this 1.5 hour thing has a foreseeable ending that isn't years away.

And for the record, I wouldn't call DC the sticks.

I don't think its quite as bad as it seems, at least from my personal experience. I have known several couples who stuck it out through college just fine-- some have gotten married, my cousin being one of them 😛. I guess it all depends on the people involved.

I'm 31 and married dude. This is all hypothetical.

As I get older, I can tolerate seeing her less. When we were kids, we were attached at the hip.

Ya, I'm 23 and have a great full time job. We wouldn't be able to see each other every weekend if I was in school, would be too expensive. Luckily I can afford the gas to see her and she appreciates every bit of it. She knows how much I'm sacrificing to drive 3 hours to see her every weekend. I want to stay as late as I can every Sunday cause I hate seeing her cry when I leave. She tolerates it because we love each other.
 
Probably every weekend depending on the type of drive that was involved or her schedule. Also depends on gas prices and my car at that point. But I'd say every weekend to every other.

That's what I was thinking! My GF and I DO live 1.5 hours away from eachother. However, we both live in the Phoenix area. I don't consider it a "long distance relationship". 🙂 And we see eachother almost daily. Maybe 5X a week.

I've lived in PHX, I can understand with traffic that it could take that long. But definitely not late at night, those highways are EMPTY! Unless of course she actually lives in Tucson
 
when I was in that situation we did on weekends and one wednesday a month when one of us really missed the other and was willing to make the drive 🙂

it worked for us.
 
In college I had a girlfriend that lived 1.5-2 hours away, and we saw each other 3 out of every 4 weekends a month..actually she ended up making the drive more than me, and sometimes randomly during the week. My living arrangements were also better though, I had my own place and she had roomates and then later on her parents
 
When my boyfriend lived 1.5 hours away he visited a few times a week.

Now that he's 2 hours away, we try to do every or every other week.

She is 2 hours away, 2-4 times a month. I work full time and have a part time job along with taking 2 grad classes. There just isn't much free time available and I try to do the best that I can.
 
at least 3 times a month, whether its me visiting her, or her visiting me
and i would only do it temporarily (like for a summer, or a semester at longest). otherwise its not worth it
