My friend got fired in October, for something that was completely bogus.

Basically he hit a sweet spot with his retirement $ and decided to speak his mind about 3 years ago; management developed an intense hatred of him, and took every opportunity to make his life a living hell, ending in his wrongful termination.

He came across proof of the wrongful termination in writing & hired a lawyer...

Got a nice settlement, he was looking for a year's salary, settled for ~$10K less, initial offer this morning was $15K, my friend doesn't like to blink when faced with complete BS, they upped it to $30K, finally settling on $50K.
 
not unless they were just planning on firing me 🙂 of course then i would be opting out on severance and what not...so no anyway you look at it
 
I would do it in a heartbeat. I work for a contracting company so I could find other work pretty easily, and that would be a pretty nice farewell gift.
 
Seeing as how I'd be offering myself $30K i'd initally be a little suspicious, but I 'd probably take it and still try to work for myself under the table.
 
Would I have to make a decision on the spot? Ideally, I would hold off on making a decision, look for a job, and then accept if I find one.
 
For those who said no, why? I can't think of any good reason not to. I guess it's possible that you might not find another job, but how long could that last? Surely not more than 6-12 months.
 
yes but i only make about 35k a year anyway...
so that wouldnt be a bad deal to get another helpdesk or Desktop job.

Because my job is fairly specific in it's demands, I'd have a hard time finding another job that I would be good at. I make a lot more than $30k a year, and with the current job market, it would probably be impossible for me to get paid this much starting somewhere else.
 
30k before or after tax?

After tax = In a heartbeat.

Before tax = I would think about it then take it (since I'll be getting only half).
 
Considering that it comes reasonably close to my annual pay, yup. There's no guarentee that in a year I'll have this job anyways.
 
I would have said yes, but I couldn't stop myself from voting that Paris Hilton is Lemmiwinks. Clearly that's more certain than any other answer I could give.
