Nothing to worry about in Alaska. We got our own oil... vast natural resources... tools to process it... and a state full of ugly natives like me. We natives would wage war against the rest of the nation for violating our state constitution by the federal government. The first place to take over would be LA just to get rid of a black hole on the face of the planet and get all the hawt chicks to get rid of our ugly genetic structure. Then take out the City of Industry just because we can. No more need for the rest of the states as we would have proven our vulgar display of power and they would know not to mess with us.

Everyone does realize that economies have failed before right? Things don't turn into anarchy.

Brazil as an example is on its 3rd currency in what 30 years?

I'd probably just sit back and wait till you got all your supplies gathered and money converted to gold. Then I'd rob your ass blind like Omar from The Wire.

Load up on guns, ammo, hand to hand weapons, coffee, water, water, water, food, gasoline, oil, and convert savings to gold or silver.

You can extrapolate this scenario in any way, you want. Perhaps your entire country is about to collapse? So how would you deal with that?

Here is my way :

I would convert my cash into gold, diamonds, keeping some of it in form of international currencies, avoiding stocks and the cash of the bust economy like plague.

I will also hoard food and stuff, enough for my family and friends for a few years in a giant hidden storage room. Also weapons and ammo for safety (after I get the licenses)

If my whole country is going to collapse, I will move my family to a safe place and do my bit for it.

So tell us your way.

Precious metals have little worth in and of themselves in a SHTF situation. You cant eat it, you cant cook with it, you cant protect yourself with it and you cant wipe your ass with it.

Now for wealth protection its a good gamble but hell if I'm facing a localized SHTF (Such as 1 country) I'll just convert to a different currency and have it be much more portable. $100k in Euro is a hell of a lot easier to move around then $100k in gold.

As for the rest, well suffice to say I could write a hell of a lot. Suffice to say, you should choose to do it "just in case" and "not because of...".

Yea, golds and diamonds look bad now. The international currency makes more sense as all of you say.

I would exchange my currency for something that will hold value, and then leave the country.

Here is a question for the OP. If you knew your country/economy was about to collapse, and you had a fair amount of warning, why the fuck would you stay?

I would buy up stuff precious metals and gems with all of my American currency, then I would proceed to move to Switzerland and sell all of said precious gems and metals for cash in a stable currency like the Euro.

You know, it really is a shame banks wont take your American Dollars and convert them to another currency. Pisses me off I have to buy a bunch of gems before I go traveling Europe.

I didnt catch this the first time....

Do you know how much food an adult requires for 1 years time? Start adding in family and friends....Well, you end up with A LOT of food.

So, I have to ask, are you talking some fantasy type planning or are you talking real down to earth "What can I do" type stuff??

Har har. What I meant was that I'd try and buy them for cheap here before the economy took a dive, then I would try and sell them for more money in Euros.

I dunno. While my question is hypothetical, the situation may very well prove true in my lifetime.

Weapons (got a good start already) and ammo (less so), seeds, gardening supplies, nonperishable food items, with an eye for economy and security in my house.

Actually, I wouldn't mind finding a way to hook up our fireplace to our household heating system and finding some way to hook up our heater as well. Then we're truly safe.

Nothing says hard times like no hot water.

Well, heres some food for thought... As I said, theres a big difference between planning for wealth protection and just planning to survive.....

quite like toilet paper. Its surplus value is greater than gold's.
