Why would she be your backup? Bangin' other ladies?

haha no. It's kinda like the girl you wanted to be with never worked out..so instead of sulking about what you don't have you go with what you do have.

I was being sarcastic but on a serious note why the hell would you tell them this?

And ya still want that other girl? Well just get over that other girl then and be satisfied(no pun intended) with your current girl.

You know what -- my wife already knows that she is a backup, but nevertheless a very GOOD backup. I moved to where I am now (Houston) from Utah about two years ago, but unfortunately had to leave a girl behind that I had just started dating and started to get really interested in. There were no real signs that this relationship would have worked out in the long run, but both of us were really disappointed that I had to move away (for work reasons). I kept on writing her, but she got involved with other guys, and then I met my wife. The e-mails have (obviously) stopped.

Anyway, I've told my wife the story that I would have definitely pursued the relationship had I stayed back in Utah, and she's been quite okay with that. I still wonder how things would've turned out, but I'll never know.

That isn't really a backup situation though. That's a "Well I didn't have the opportunity to pursue things fully with Girl #1, but now that i have with girl #2 she seems good to marry.". A true backup situation is "I wanted to stay with Girl #1 and I think she would probably have been better than #2, but since I can't marry #1, I'll stick with #2 cause she's better than nothing."

You never tell someone that they were your backup unless you want to wake up one morning with your tools on your face.

Some things are just common sense...

I love being a backup. Mine likes to backup to a hard drive. AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOO YES!

No.no.no.no.... don't tell her. If things are going well there is no reason to cause trouble... There is nothing worse than dealing with the insecurities in your wife that you caused. Leave it alone man... She will never get over it and worse she will never forget it....

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Why on earth would you intentionally hurt someone's feelings like that? That would hurt any woman to the point where fixing it may become impossible.

You guys are flying off the handle for nothing.

His first love is Rosie Palm. How does he break that news is what he needs to know.

This has got to be the dumbest thread I've read in weeks! If you're married, I give you a year at the most if you're asking this question. If you're dating, I give you about 3 months before you do something stupid that will get you kicked to the curb.

You joking? I don't think he'll last even half that long, since he's (a) already thinking about it, and (b) posting it on an online forum, which means that (c) he's already got a "side order" of his own, or is seriously considering an available one.

Remind me to leave a business card with your soon-to-be ex. She'll no doubt want "Quality Revenge at Reasonable Prices".

Yeah, I can't understand how you could be this obtuse. Why would you tell her? That type of honesty isn't needed.

If you're down, and confused
And you don't remember, who you're talkin' to
Concentration slips away
'Cause your baby is so far away

Well there's a rose, in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove
And if you can't be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you're with

Don't be angry, don't be sad
Don't sit cryin' over good times you had
There's a girl, right next to you
And she's just waiting for something to do

Well there's a rose, in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove
And if you can't be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you're with

Turn your heartache right into joy
She's a girl, and you're a boy
So get it together, make it nice
You ain't gonna need, any more advice
Good advice from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
