There are a few of us out there with 8K7A and having a problem with it not restarting on a warm boot. IE: You save settings and exit from BIOS and end up only with your monitor going into power saving mode. You then have to reach down and hit the reset button, or power off, then back on for it to post. If you are having this problem please post your exact specs. I am thinking it might have to do with Antec 300W PS, or Netgear FA311 NIC.

I am having the same problem. The strange thing is that it started after I installed DX8. Before that it worked fine. I have an Enermax 430 ps and an Intel DSL modem so it isnt what you are looking at.

This is done even before posting. The first time I turned it on I went into the bios went to save and exit and it hung. Even if I change nothing from default and exit without saving or with it does it. Here is my EXACT system:
8K7A
1.33GHz AXIA "Y" Week 12
256MB Corsair PC2400 CAS2 RAM
Creative Labs 16MB Riva TNT... LoL
Promise FastTrak 100TX2 RAID 0
IBM DeskStar 75GXP 30.7GB ATA/100 7200RPM (2 of em)
Sound Blaster Live! MP3+5.1
NetGear FA311 NIC
Kenwood 72X CD-ROM on IDE 0 Master
Creative Labs 12X Ovation DVD Drive on IDE 0 Slave
Antec PP-303? Power Supply Ver. 2.01 300W
Microsoft Internet Pro Keyboard (USB & PS/2)
Microsoft Intellieye Intelli Mouse (Using USB)
Water Cooled, w/ Socket A Heatsink on Northbridge Chipset

*EDIT*
It doesn't matter but it's just cool... Sony Trinitron 19" Multiscan E400... = )

Also, I have used both BIOS' for mobo and both do the same thing...

The only time it does it to me is when I shutdown or restart. I don't have any problems when I first start or come out of bios. You can see my specs down below. Like I said before, the wierd thing is that it started after I installed DX8. Before that it would restart fine. I must say that it got to be very annoying when I was loading all my programs and even now it is a pain in the arss. I am just wondering if we are the only ones with this problem.

You and me have a different problem then on this one. It has to do it coming out of the BIOS. or on all warm boots.

Try booting without your NIC. The Netgear NIC's have a bad reputation with the 760 chipset MB's.
fishingeek...How goes it amigo?

I have 8K7A, and SX830. Never seen a problem like that. In fact the board and my whole system gave me no problems whatsoever for 2.5wks now.

Maybe it had to do with Suspend to Ram or ACPI functions. I'm just using the "normal" suspend mode.

Sup Bevo, how was the fishing? As you can see I got sick of waiting for the K7 Master-S so I got the Epox instead. I am happy that I did.

xSuicidaLx--What bevo said, it's the Netgear FA311TX causing the problem. That nic does the same thing in any 761 based system. The only cure is to replace the nic with either an FA310TX, or a different brand entirely.

Thanks fasteddie, you taught me this, o' Master of the MB....

fishingeek...It was awesome and the freezer is full of fructas del mar! In Costa Rica, averaged about 20 billfish knockdowns per day...Glad you settled on a MB. Looks like the msi scsi board still has not shown its shiney face. The Epox should work well. Guess I'll wait a couple more weeks and try the kg7. Hopefully, it will be less buggy.

The same thing happens to me with my 8K7A. After fiddling around with something in the BIOS, I save and exit, and my monitor goes into power saving mode. Pressing the reset button or power does not do anything, so I have to pull the plug out of my case. Aside from that, it is a great motherboard.
BTW I have an Antec sx1030b with the default Antec 300W PS. I don't have a Netgear FA311 NIC though. Instead, I have a Linksys LNE100TX, and I have the same problem.

I have the SX830 and DX8 installed and haven't had this problem, only trouble with the computer going to sleep but wont wake up. Has to do with my power saving settings but haven'øt figured it out yet.

My 8K7A has a problem with PCI slot 4. Win98 wouldn't install properly until I took my NIC out of PCI 4. I don't know if this is all related to you guys problems, just a thought.

That is a hardware conflict. A little different than our problems. So far a lot of us seem to have antec power supplies?

I also have an Antec PP-303X. This power supply is NOT approved by AMD. The PP-403X is approved which is a 400 Watt PSU but not the 303X.

I don't have any restart problems but I do have lockup problems so I'm getting a new supply to solve this. I wonder how many people have 303X's who don't have any problems though, anyone?

Maybe I'm the only one around that's not having power problems with a Tbird, Antec PP303X ? ;)

Like I said, I haven't encountered any problem, other than one or two related to software.

The Antec300W runs my 1.2Ghz, Epox, 512mb DDR, 2 IBM HD, 1 CDROM, 1CDRW, TNT2, SBLive! and a ethernet NIC w/o any problems in Win2k, or Win98.

I have NOT had any problems of this sort with my Epox board, so you can rule out my hardware combination:

Enlight 7237 case with 300W Power Supply
Epox 8K7A (using factory BIOS)
1.2GHz. Athlon (AVIA core)
256MB Crucial PC2100 DDR
40GB IBM 60GXP Hard Drive
AOpen 12X DVD-ROM Drive
3D Prophet 4500 (Kyro II)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card
Realtek 10/100 PCI NIC
Linksys 10/100 PCI NIC
Floppy Drive
USB keyboard and mouse
Windows 98 SE
DirectX 8.0a

Let me know if you need any help/testing with my system!

I haven't had any trouble either. I have ACPI disabled too, which I didn't have a problem with it enabled either. I'm also using the beta bios, version 1521. I have an AOpen AON-325 10/100 NIC, which works great with this motherboard.

I've got the same problem. Monitor goes into power save and shuts down on warm boot. My system:

Epox 8K7A
1.33 GHz AXIA
512 M Crucial PC2100 DDR
Hercules 3D Prophet 4500
Antec SX-830 (300W)
Hitachi CM772
Netgear FA311 NIC
Creative Labs Modem Blaster
Swiftech MC370
Maxtor Diamond Max+60/30G
Pioneer 106S DVD (master)
Plextor 16/10/40 CDRW (slave) and
W2K Pro OS.

Same thing happens also when "shutdown" and "restart."

Can anyone tell me if the Suspend to RAM feature works on the 8K7A? If it does, with which BIOS? I know that ACPI can be flaky sometimes but this is one feature that is appealing to me.
Please post your comments on the Suspend to RAM feature on the 8K7A.

thanks

I have had my power supply for quite awhile. I think that is not the problem. maybe you never know. Also it will randomly actually boot properly. VERY rarely though. Maybe it is the Netgear NIC? Not sure.

I just uninstalled the Netgear NIC and pulled it out of the slot. The monitor shutdown problem seems to be resolved. Monitor DOES NOT shut down after warm reboot (from BIOS), or after "shutdown" and "restart" in W2K. BINGO

I guess the next question is, what NIC will not cause the same problem. Anyone have an idea?
