Errr, if you're talking about having to pay them to do that, then you dont even need to win the lotto.

Does anyone feel like they should give some of the money to their really good friends?

Put money in the bank, make money off interest. Buy a condo, top of the line computer, and a new car (BMW M3). Do a little travelling to Europe, start a small business just to do something with all the free time I'll have.

How much do you usually get when you take the lump sum? If it's over 40% of the original sum, you can make a lot more by taking the lump sum and investing it.

The lottery is quite the scam though. The odds are ridiculous. Even if you win, you don't get the money they advertise.

I would try to convince my boss to cut me down to part time.

I would purchase a full case of Captain Morgan Private Stock, and I wouldn't ask for a bulk discount!

I'd also have a big barbequeue and serve only Porterhouses and Filet.

I would purchase a regular home in a regular neighborhood with a garage and a basement for myself. (Currently I'm in a townhome with no garage or basement)

I would purchase a new home for my mother, nothing too fancy, but better then what she has now. I would make sure she was financially secure for the rest of her life.

It would be time to upgrade my 61inch non-hd Rear Projection TV to something bigger than can do 1080P or higher resolution (if a projector, then a really really bright one.)

I would purchase about 2500 CDs that I've been meaning to get.

I would install a hot tub in the Basement

I would install an elevator to take me from the basement, to the secret underground lair.

The Secret ungerdround lair will be my lan location, so it wouldn't really be secret, however, I think it would still be an OK name for it.

Once I have all my toys set up how I like em, I'd try to keep living expenses low and invest the rest.

I'd also invest whatever money remained in Real estate and Stocks (20% in blue chip stocks, and 10% going into the penny stocks) On the real estate side I'd go with a long term minimal effort strategy. One that may not be THE most efficient, however, would not require extreme amounts of time. I'd own rental units. I would hire a management company to handle all the work. I would make a down payment of 30% per each property and take the other 70% out on loans. I would then spend 90% of the remaining funds as down payments + closing costs for rental units. If morgage payments for those properties + management company fees + all other expenses cost more than the income gained from the properties, then I would apply some of the remaining 10% of cash reserves towards paying off some of the rental properties, until there is positive cash flow.

I dunno what I'd do with whatever is left, however, I'm sure I'd find a use for it. Perhaps a little place up north and some snomobiles...

Assuming a large jackpot:

I would set up a fund for my parents.
I would set up a fund for my parents -in law
I would give the wife the option of leaving me with half the money.

If she didn't I would build my dream Z and buy a Modena and leave the rest up to her minus a nice savings acount.

If she did it would be constant world travel with an entourage of hot chicks.

Edit: 20% would go to charity..........

Buy my family's house in NorCal back and give it to them.
Buy a chunk of land in the Cali wine country and set aside some building funds.

Invest the rest and go back to school.

Just think of all the good you could accomplish for your local area if you won one of those really huge jackpots. Politicians would suddenly think every idea you had was pure genius and be falling all over themselves to help enact any changes you wanted to invest in.

On the periodic payment plan...

Priorities:
My education
Mom's medical costs
Buy a used car
Give dad money to pay off house in exchange for leaving it solely to me
Invest the rest as it comes in

Yes, a *USED* car. New cars are such a waste of money. And if at all possible, a diesel engine for it (if it exists, chances are there's a diesel version floating around in Europe). Fuel costs what?

If I hit the lottery I would pay off all my bills. Give my family a little of it (pay off all their debt). Probably move to another city where no one knows me. Buy a small house and live a reasonable life regardless of all the money or not.

I'd buy myself a nice black Mercades, a house, a lamborghini, the best PC ever, etc.
