If you won $1,000,000, would you quit school?

Quit school?

Change programs?

Stay in the same place, but not attend school anymore?

(this has a decidedly post-secondary spin on it)

EDIT: In Canada, lottery winnings are tax-free! So, $1,000,000 after-tax for you Americans.

Maybe do some volunteer work.

dameon,

Ha! I kinda like that answer. Grass is always greener, or so it seems.

Well, I'm in school, and I think I would probably switch into a less "practical" program and maybe just learn stuff for the sake of learning. Unfortunately, in my mind, I can't justify spending loads of money on an education that isn't going to help you pay for it unless you're already financially independent.

um.. $1,000,000 aint' that much. You can spend that in less than a year or two, unless you're really consertive. But you just won it, it ain't yours. Of course you'll blow it away fast.

I'd use it to bribe my way up the work ladder or do some schooling... :)

If I had a million dollars left after taxes, I would quit school and live off the interest....

{personal rant following}

Well, personally I've been attending college since '95 and still haven't finished my bachelor's degree yet. I've made some bad decisions, failed classes due to mild depression / alcholism / smoking (ie really being stupid), etc. So, I'm 15 credit hrs. short of my diploma at this point, but have to work full time. It's hard doing both. Work doesn't like to schedule around school and vice versa. It is a knock-down drag-out threaten to quit war every stinking semester to get schedules ironed out. I hate it. Much less, my wife is about ready to finish her master's degree, talk about feeling like sh!t when she's walked the stage twice... and I haven't even finished once. :( But she motivates me to finish... I don't want to fill out surveys and have to check "high school" as highest degree of education acheived. I don't want to be a grunt on the low end of the ladder forever, and if the job market gets tough, I don't want to be left out.

{end rant... for now}

true, 1 mil isn't all that much, but I'd just live the PHAT life for some time and invest a big deal of it.....get my own flat, car, etc. for example.

dude,

$1,000,000 invested gives you pretty good interest payments. I wouldn't blow it right away.

It would be a nice crutch, or fallback. It would let you take risks that you normally wouldn't. You could work a job that you enjoyed, but didn't necessarily pay well (or at all).

I'll go back to school. I'd rather be in school than work but since I can't afford school, I worked instead.

Congratulations!

You could probably used some tropical scenery. Hawaii is nice and warm. You'll love the hospitality & warm weather.

True Z28, but I love my job. I just want to get paid more, and maybe move up to a higher position. It's all about braggin' rights. :) And also how big your d*ck is. :)

It's not how much you know, it's who you know. I know this for a fact, as I got a job I love and never had to pay for a ticket, as the judges automatically tosses it out. ;)

Since I'd be only 16.. going on 17, I'd want to stay in school. $1,000,000 isn't going to be a lot of money 30 years down the road. Of course, it'll let my splurge in my early life, but I'd still keep a hefty $500k+ in the banks somewhere. :)

bonkers,

but if you spend all that time and money to get that great education, and then you spend all that time working... how are you going to enjoy your money?

I will finish school and start a tutoring school for poor children.
I wont be making profit just enough to run the place.

I'd probably first pay the necessary taxes (probably about 45% at least) invest the rest, and annuitize the payments into monthly payments, spend whatever I need, and donate the rest monthly. I'm retired already (although I take classes for enjoyment), so my lifestyle probably wouldn't change at all.

For everyone I believe school would take a while to finish if there isn't much incentive to finish it the first four years.

I'd finish up school, and not blow it all, i would invest it. If i had a million after taxes, you could live off interest (assuming you get $1 mil, all at once, no tax)... but it would be difficult.

School
Work a little
have some fun.

Since I live in america... tax will take half of it or something.... so.. i would keep my ass in school and leave the 500k in da bank to pay for school and such.

Now.. if the jackpot were 5mil w/o taxes... you could live off interest pretty nicely.

Since I'm in high school, a $1,000,000 would probably buy it... so... I'd buy my school and then blow it up.

All a million bucks would do to me would be speed up my financial course. Thankfully I would not feel compelled to change my life in any way (such as quiting job); all that would change would be spending habits - and of course I'd move out of my apartment, get a house, stick much of it away...
