If you where a lawyer, would you defend Saddam?

600 lawyers in Jordania would.

The Arab Lawyer's Union, which comprises members from across the Arab world, is setting up an international team for Saddam's defense, Hussein Mejali told The Associated Press.

``I expect more volunteers and thousands of Arab and international lawyers to register their names to be part of the defense team,'' he said. ``We are all willing to spare no efforts to help the Iraqi president.''

Yes I would. I'd only decline to defend in one type of case and perhaps the cannon of ethics might not allow me to do that either.. but, for sure.. and I'd represent Saddam with all the talent I possessed. The rule of law demands this. And, without the strongest defense possible the rule of law is not sustained.

Mejali said last week he believed Saddam was unlawfully deposed by coalition forces and unlawfully captured by
U.S. troops. He maintains Saddam is Iraq's legitimate president because the U.S.-led occupation has no legality.

admittedly, saddam's 100% election returns were very legitimate.

Jordanian professional organizations, including the bar association, have long supported Saddam, including during
Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

professional turds.

OK.. I'll take up Saddam's defense.. As his pseudo attorney.. :D

UN Res 1441 recognized explicitly the sovereignty of Iraq as well as embodied explicitly the previous 'Iraqi' resolutions. Without just cause, the US and co-conspirators invaded Iraq, overthrew the legitimate government and occupies the nation as we write. The US forces illegally arrested the duly elected president of Iraq and seek to try him for crimes which have here-to-for not been charged against him or his forces. The World Court is the venue for bringing such charges as was the case with Lybia and Col. Qaddafi.. Precedent mandates the UN force the US to abandon this illegal and abhorrent act and if the US wishes to indict Iraq or specifically, Hussein then they may attempt this in the Court of appropriate jurisdiction..

Off the top of my head.. I'd start here!

I would take the defense of Sadaam in a second. Of course you're likely to lose, but imagine the money you could make off the fame you would receive. Some stupid book company would probably even offer you a huge amount of money to write a book on being around Sadaam.

No, I could defend nobody I didn't feel was innocent. One reason why I don't practice law although it's in my genes.

Well, I don't wear jeans but, did wear bell bottoms.. :)

To make the system of law.. our law, work the defendant must be afforded the best possible defense.. It matters not the guilt or innocence of the charged but, rather, can the state prove his guilt beyond the threshold established. So, in Saddam's case we all may know he is guilty but, is he guilty under law? Was he even arrested under law? I'd love to defend him. I'd do it not for the personal rewards but for the notion that I know I'd provide the best possible lawful defense. Of course, I'm not a member of any bar so perhaps if I were I'd think differently and look for the personnel rewards. Hehehehehe we each arrive at our stance in life the result of the steps we took to get there, didn't we..
BTW, you'd make a fine attorney... and ought to practice.. we could open an office in Santa's Village defending elfs from unfair labor practices..:)

Sure I would. The crimes that he has preformed are very well documented, and he admits to doing them. As I see it, I get paid and the scumbag goes to jail for life, or death. Speaking of which, do you think he will get the death penalty? He certanly does qualify for it in America.

MY guess is he won't get a trial just like another ex-dictator Manuel Noriaga also removed and denied trial due to national security concerns.
