it bounced at the free throw line and went in the hoop would it count as a 2 or 3 pointer? It bounced at the free throw line so on one hand you would think it was a 2 but the last time it was touched by someone was at half court so it might count as a 3.

I kicked one in once from the opposing free throw line... was messing around in an empty gym and hit a lob with my right foot, 3/4 the length of the court, square off the middle of the backboard and in. Too bad no one else saw it :(

I would say 3, since if you get a shot off the backboard from the 3-point line it's still a 3-pt shot...

meh.

Show me a man that can run, jump, and dunk that far, then I'll answer your question :p

It would be a 3 pointer though.

plenty of guys can dunk from the free throw line - it's only another 5-6 feet.

my guess is that it is a 2 pointer with the credit going to the person closest to where the ball bounced (as opposed to the shooter). I think the ball is considered a "loose ball" as soon as it hits the floor.

Looking at the NBA rules, there's no reason I can see that it wouldn't count as a 3-pointer.

a. A legal field goal or free throw attempt shall be scored when a live ball from the playing area enters the basket from above and remains in or passes through the net.
b. A successful field goal attempt from the area on or inside the three-point field goal line shall count two points.
c. A successful field goal attempt from the area outside the three-point field goal line shall count three points.
(1) The shooter must have at least one foot on the floor outside the three-point field goal line prior to the attempt.
(2) The shooter may not be touching the floor on or inside the three-point field goal line.
(3) The shooter may contact the three-point field goal line, or land in the two-point field goal area, after the ball is released.
d. A field goal accidentally scored in an opponent's basket shall be added to the opponent's score, credited to the opposing player nearest the shooter and mentioned in a footnote.
e. It is a violation for a player to attempt a field goal at an opponent's basket. The opposing team will be awarded the bal at the free throw line extended.
f. A successful free throw attempt shall count one point.
g. An unsuccessful free throw attempt which is tapped into the basket shall count two points and shall be credited to the player who tapped the ball in.
h. If there is a discrepancy in the score and it cannot be resolved, the running score shall be official.

Should be a 3 pointer, but I think it's nearly impossible for the ball to bounce that way from those angles (half court --> free throw line --> rim)

Yeah, it'd have to be one heck of a high shot. A more believable situation would be if the player was standing behind the three-point line and throws the ball down instead of up, in such a way that it bounces right in front of the three point line and goes in the basket. Difficult, but doable with some practice.

ive seen people throw alley oops like that, but it would be tough to get it in... from anywhere. harder than you know, actually shooting it.

Thing is, we're not talking about the free throw line :p

We're talking about the outer semi circle around the hoop. That's a bit more than 5-6 feet ;) Also keep in mind you would have to be pretty high up in the air by the time you got there.

I dunno I have a pretty hard time making it as it is. I doubt my odds would get any worse trying this new method.
