if you were to rename HT, how would you do it?

I was thinking of a suggestion to rename or move the HT forum out of Hardware (so its not at the very top)... to prevent all these wrong forum posts that get locked...

My new name would probably be "Science, Math & Engineering"... or possibly "Theoretics & Practicalities"

but im curious... you the HT community...what would you do?

Post some ideas and ill add a poll later.

I think Highly Technical is appropriate. I just think it needs to be under Social.

But if we were to rename it, how about 'Academia Discussions'

Scientific fits better for me rather than technical.

How about "Science and Technology," a.k.a. "S&T"

How about "Science and Mathematics," aka "S&M". Maybe later we could incorporate Binary and Decimal discussions as well in a combined forum, "BDSM".

Although calling it "the plane and treadmill debate" forum would be pretty neat IMHO.

To me, it does not really matter what it is called. I mostly do lurking here, as I am more of a mechanical person. I don't think the name is the problem, it is just people's inability to read or understand English. I guess with the forum switch there is no longer a description, and plenty of newer members have a good excuse to post garbage here. The rest probably stems from the low intelligence, or just general immaturity so prevalent on these forums.

I haven't actually noticed any mis-categorized threads in here since the rearranging, so I am not sure exactly what this is all about, but that is not to say I have not seen this forum abused for less-than technical help.

I think the name fits it, just the positioning was bad. With the large amounts of forums now made it makes it much harder to find Highly Technical before seeing the Support boards. That would be my guess for the lack of "My computer is borked" since the change.

How about "Don't Post Dumb Sh!t in here that is unrelated to science, technology, or math... and for the love of god no troubleshooting or psychology threads!"

Sometimes long and clear works better then short and sweet.

I was hoping this thread would be about renaming HyperTransport or Hyper-Threading so that they don't share the same abbreviation any more 🙁

Lightning Data Transport sounded much nicer anyway, they should go back to that 😉

And if someone decided to rename HT, I'd vote for "Science and Technology", I'd say that's a better description than HT anyways.

Well then we wouldn't get all those charming threads about the meaning of life and free will and all that profound stuff, you know🙂

Seriously though, we should include a reference to math in the name. The math problem threads tend to be the most active threads on the forum for the duration of their lifespan.

Ok, so make it "Science, Technology, and 42".
Anyone who can't understand the meaning of the latter part isn't qualified to post about it anyay 😉

Oh and math...well it's boring, but it's most certainly science 🙂
