2nd, Less likely to experience breakins and you don't have to lug all your furniture up that third flight of stairs. Still, you're at the mercy of neighbors above and below you. Might opt for the third floor based on that alone.

1st or 3rd. 2nd, utilities are a small thing to me considering I have to deal with people above me and below me and their noise.

1st only because of convenience, but I'd probably pick 3rd.

Ours is a pretty cool setup,we have a 2 story apt in a 3 story building, the second and third floor are ours.
Both floors have a full bedroom and bath but the 3rd floor also also has a loft area bigger than the bedrooms that overlooks the living room on the second floor.
Heating bills suck.

1ST, that way I can do backflips in my living room at 3 am and there will be nobody below me to complain

we lived on all three floors in the past few years nad the third was nice... we felt safer, but it was a bich getting things moved and carrying stuff up and down.
second was nice (my favorite, it was only a two floor apt building) and right now we are on the first floor... nice because we have a padio to grill but since we are on a slab we have SOOO many bugs and spiders!

1st floor.

Easier to move in and out of, and you can actually control the temperature of your apartment. We lived on the 3rd floor once, and it was so hot up there we had our heat turned off year round, in Minnesota.

I'd go with the highest one possible. Don't have to worry about heavy walkers above you.

I always pic the 3rd floor...although there are some disadvantages:

Advantages:
1) a lot of apartment complexes have taller ceilings on the top floor...makes it feel lot more airy.
2) seem to be farther away from pesks (ants, roaches, mice, et.) in theory...but this is most likely just psychological
3) unlikely to have water damage.
4) most likely safer from burglary (again...probably just psychological).

Disadvantages:
1) BIG ONE: Pain in the ass to move in
2) heating/cooling may be more expensive...but depends on how efficient the apts system is.
3) having to walk up those damn steps each day (although could be construed as exercise).

1st floor. It's cooler, it's easier to move in/out, and you can stomp around as much as you want without having to worry your downstairs neighbor.

I've lived on all floors and the one thing that pissed me off above everything else was hearing people stomping around above me. I don't care if it's the 3rd or the 33rd, I'm living in the top floor.

Own a house now btw :p

i can handle listening to someone above me easier than having someone complain to me about my noise, so 1st floor would be best for me

2nd is just bad alround, you are going to hear the people above you and get complaints from the people below you
