If You were to choose : Duron 600 vs Duron 700 ??

Which would you choose ? I have heard many success stories on both CPU, but which would you prefer?

Well, I'm only going to say this; I have tested 10 Duron 700's. The max I got was 950, but ify. I backed them down to 900MHz and stable. I am going to test a like quantity of 600's over the weekend....... I'll have to get back with ya on how they do.I hear lots of reports of Durons going 1GHz+, but that's left to be seen.

If you go to overclocker's database, the number of duron that hits 1Ghz is outrageous.

I am wondering whether these people are able to "hit" 1Ghz or maintain stability on the 1Ghz mark.

I don't call it til it's stable. There are lots of tricks you can do for at least hitting the mark. One of them is disabling the L2 Cache, which proves nothing. When a CPU can run with everything enabled and run some sustained cpu intensive applications over a period of 12 hours or more at full load without crashing, then it's stable in my book.

I totally understand your argument. My P3 700 can hit 1050 super stable. It even boots at 156Mhz... but not stable. So the definition of overclocking is different.

I agree with you, I would only consider overclocked CPU when it is stable. Otherwise, its just a spike in overclocking

I'd go with the 650. Same price as the 600, and should OC just as well o maybe a tad better.

With my 700 I hit 1G, I had to run it at 1.85v. I didn't test it a whole lot. Ran 3DMarks, Quake3, it ran those without crashing. I spent a night playing with all different combos, benchmarking and what not. But after I benchmarked about every speed known to man, to difference speed wise between 850 and 1000 was not worth how much hotter it ran. About 31C@850 and 39-40@1000.

my 650 does 1100 quite nicely. anything over that is very shakey. just got lucky I guess.

Well, so far the Duron 600's are doing better than my previous batch of 700's. Looks like 1GHz is no problem.

Im taking Its better To have a Duron 700 than a Celeron 2 700?

Any comment on this, If the Durons better I'll have to call the store and see if they can change the CPU before builing the system ; )

Daviet, if you make that change, you'll obviously need a different motherboad too. Yes the Duron will kick the pants off of an Overclocked Celeron.

The Celeron has a crippled l2 cache that the Duron clock for clock will run circles around. Duron is 100MHz default fsb, where celeron is 66.

I just got this email from overclockerz.com ... They explain that duron 600 are generally the better overclockers.

Just to throw in my two cents worth:

I had a D600 that ran stable at 950. I now have a D700 that is stable at 1083. Both were/are on a KT7 with a Cooler Master DP5-6H11 Heatsink/Fan.

My opinion is the 600 is cheaper than the 700 and your chances of hitting a gig are the same so get the 600. I have 3600s now that I got from same place all are unlocked and week 26 and they all do 1GHz under 1.7.5 Vcore. the one Im running now I have it at 900MHz at 1.5 Vcore so it stays at a cool 89 Temps climb above 1.7 cant Imagine going to 1.8 or higher thats seems like a big risk to me.

two duron 700's I bought today for my friend and I will only do around 900mhz without crapping out.

Using an Msi K7tpro2-A and a coolermaster DP5-6H11.

Quite sad. I was really aiming for 1ghz.

Well, I thought all the 600s were gonna do 1Ghz, but I got 4 that did and 4 that didnt. Also got 8 800's all doing 1GHz+ and a bunch of blue core TBirds that are doing 1000-1100.
The 4 durons that wont go 1Ghz will do 900 fine.

The Celeron gets smacked by the Duron no matter how you look at it. It pretty much runs about 15% slower. In Sysmark, a Celeron 766 performs about the same (slightly worse) than a Duron 600. Not mention that the latter costs around $50 while the Cel 766 is well over $100.

i agree with most of the ppl here that the duron 700 is not a great overclocker..even ones with late week numbers still only do around 900, while a large percentage of duron 600's will easily do 950-1gig

How are the Duron 750's?

I changes the deal, Instead of a celeron 700 I asked for a duron 700, But seems this company no longer has them, the lowest now is a Duron 750.. Which should be getting shiped here any time.. So what OC'ing Speeds could I expect from a 750 duron?

Correction. Neither my friend or I can hit 900mhz with 100% stability.

I get prime95 errors at 900 as does he.

850 for me, 800 for him now. We are pretty disapointed.
