if you were sent something by mistake in the mail worth $400 by a company...

moshquerade

No Lifer
would you keep it or send it back?

it's a computer related item.
there is no way they will/can charge you for this either or ask for it back.

Depends on which company it was. Have they treated me unfairly in the past?

Perhaps you can donate it to charity. Good Karma!

why? it depends on what it is?

yeah, and who the company was. Unless it was something I REALLY wanted, and it was a company I HATED, I'd send it back....

Scenario: Newegg fvcks up and sends me a 17" LCD. I'd send it back without a question, so long as they paid shipping or something....

They won't ask for payment or for it back, but will they know about it? ie. will it possibly affect future transactions with them? And if so, are they a company you'd use a lot? I'm leaning toward 'keep it'.

Hmm.

I would post using a different account, and sign my post "-M4H".
😛

I would have made that reference if you didn't 😉

OP: A lawyer friend of mine there is some law that says if it was sent to you, you can keep it...I will do some asking around of the people I've heard it from...oddly enough, the item he got to keep was worth about $400 🙂

It's a form of stealing. Contact the company and let them know. They might just give it to you anyways for being truthful.

The answer to this is very simple:

Ask yourself how you would like to be treated if the situation were reversed.

Not how you would expect to be treated, but how you would LIKE to be treated.

Then do exactly that.

once i ordered a hard drive & received a case of 5,
worth several hundred dollars.

so, i called the vendor & had the extras sent back
(they had no idea they'd shipped a few too many).

Do the right thing regardless of what it is. Call them to explain the situation. You know what the right decision is, you dont need us as your moral compass😉

just befoe Christmas I was sent some stuff by mistake,
I opened the box,and I go???wtf is this?

I called the company, and said uh I got sent somebody elses stuff.

I then asked if they could do a "willcall" for ups,etc to pickup the package.

The company did not "reward" me,but they did say thanks.

I was sent several pairs of nike shoes years ago that i did not order. I called the company and told them there was a mistake because i never ordered anything from them. The company told me that if i wanted to return the shoes, i'd have to pay the shipping back to them. I was like, you want me to spend for the return shipping for stuff that i didn't order??? They said yes, i would have to pay to return the shoes to them. I said there is no way that i would spend my money to return their shoes which were sent by mistake. In the end they just told me to keep the shoes for free.

What a bunch of idiots.
