If you were me... would you return my unopened HIS IceQ x1900xt 512MB

Topic and subtopic says it all. Looks like it would cost me roughly an additional $75-80 once it's all said and done to return my current card and buy an x1950xt.

Would you bother with it? Or just keep the x1900xt?

When you can only push 1680x1050 and 6xAA, the higher bandwidth of the X1950XTX isn't going to benefit you unless you can go higher in either AA or pixels or both. The difference as of right now would be about 3 frames. Just overclock the current X1900 you have and you'll be right with it if not faster.

Isn't the x1950xtx just barely better then the x1900xtx, which is just barely better then the x1900xt? I say the extra cost just plain isn't worth it. The IceQ is suppose to be a pretty nice cooler thats also quiet, so there shouldn't a large different there either.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep my perfectly nice card and be damn happy about it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't passing up a moderate-to-large upgrade. Sounds like the difference for me wouldn't even be noticeable.

If the difference was only like $20-30 then I'd trade it. But for $80 more it's not worth it. Besides, you already have a quieter cooler than the regular x1900xt, so there's even less reason to trade.

For $75-80 then no, if it was less than $50 I'd say hell yeah if only to get the better cooler and DDR4.

The IceQ Cooler isn't dramatically cooler/warmer or louder/quieter than the X1950XTX one.

Oh yeah, forgot he said it was an IceQ one. Well I stand by the rest of what I said

Hmmm...Would I be safe in assuming that the same goes for the nVidia products such as the GeForce 7900 vs the 7950? Just OC to the 7950 speed?

No, because the cores are different.

Oh.. Are they? I thought they're both G71. Is the 7950 a revised core?

I'd go with x1950xt.. awesome cooler... lower power and serverly underrated by review sites... only when you start applying AA & HQ AF does it really start to shine as shown by Hocp..

Course what you should really do is return it for a $239 x1900xt 256...best bang for the buck since the 7900GT and no overclocking... voiding warranty... volt modding needed like with the GT in order to perform like a screamer...

You're making me feel bad buying the X1900XT 512mb for $60 more 🙂.. O well, I am sure the extra memory will come in handy later on, but it does show some benefit at higher resolution.

It comes in handy if you do a a lot of tripple buffering at high res like 19x12 res with lots of aa/af... other than that it's kinda overkill for what the cards can do res wise. Main reason for 512 is Xfire/SLI setup at the moment.

Yeah, that triple buffering is almost a must if you have an LCD and a desire to eliminate screen tearing. Oblivion can take up a good chunck of visual bandwidth and if you wanted to vsync it along with triple buffering, 512MB's would come in mighty handy then.

I have the 7900GT way overclokced but only 256MB of course... I find in oblivion when i'm using DXtweaker to tripple buffer I get a very bad gameplay lots of hard drives access obviously not having room for it's huge textures and maps combined with maintaining such a large buffer.. Simple solution was to turn off AA while still Triple buffering.. my other solution was to turn off vsync entirely.. neither are 100% satisfactory. But that's the only game I ran into a problem.
