I have a 700m myself. I'm tempted to grab a core 2 duo though....

The 2 hour battery life on my 700m kills me...

my 1705's 9 cell battery lasts about 5.5 hours.

HMM, maybe it is time for me to upgrade too. I can get the 1210M for about 850. But my 700M is still running strong though.

call me crazy, but my GateWay MX6454 (AMD turion 64 X2 Turion TL-50 w/ 2 gigs DDR2 and ATi Radeon Xpress 1150, 120gig HD, + DL DVDRW for 549 + free printer) was a pretty good deal last black friday. I'm just hating the integrated gfx.

I've been in the market for a while and now seeing that many people think this is a great deal I suppose it's time for me to take the plunge.

Thanks for the heads up.

often the 750 off 1500 wasn't all that good because they jacked the prices up. in other words, just because you were getting 'half' off doesn't mean it was a good deal. maybe dell is better now, but back then the only way you could tell if you were getting a good deal was by tracking the configuration from week to week.

May 8th the day they official announce the Santa Rosa platform. It's worth the one month wait to get some dx10 graphic cards.

Don't dare taking anything less than the best which is glossy in the e1705's case, I think its an extra $149 you'll be VERY happy you paid for, or very sorry you didn't. You can also read around in relevant forums, many people who got the cheaper displays returned it.

Ok, that might be true if you're a hardcore gamer and willing to pay top $$$ for your system. In this case you shouldn't look for a hot deal, since SR is going to shoot prices up for a while anyway.
If you're anything other than extreme-hardcore gamer and you're looking to get an Inspiron system there's no reason to miss this offer if its still valid.

The 8-cell battery will give you roughly 4 hours of runtime, and a new one is only $50 on eBay. :)

My 2 year old XPS2 is going strong. I travel nearly weekly with it and my IBM work laptop. The 2 year old IBM couldn't stand the stress and had to have a full motherboard and RAM replacement 2 weeks ago. The XPS2, which has gone through security more than the IBM and on more flights because when I vacation I often leave the IBM home, needed a replacement ribbon cable from the base to the LCD that's it. When it went out, it was usable, I just had to keep moving the LCD a bit for it to flip on. When the IBM died, it just locked up and died.

my 600m from two years ago is still going strong but it fell from my couch onto a carpet foor. Landed on its base but the LCD cracked. It is only on the side so I just work around the bad spot. The machine runs great but the construction is lacking due to cheap plastic.

My IBM Thinkpad T43 is solid. It is only slightly newer than the 600m. It was probably one of the last to roll off the assembly line before they started branding them Lenovo. The enclosure is much more sturdy than Dell. I dont know if it metal or just a very strong, reinforced plastic but it takes a lickin and keeps on ticking.

Got my XPS genII in march 2005.
It has gone to a construction site 5 days a week for the last 2 years.
Every 3 months i have to blow out the dust from inside due to the large amount of dust on the job. Heatsinks get totally clogged with sheetrock-wood dust causing no air flow over the sinks but still runs fine.
Only had a powersupply failure. Best laptop i have ever used

Of course that $1,500 laptop was a Pentium M 1.3 GHz with 512MB, 20 GB hard drive and a blazing Radeon 9600 :)

My Dell Inspiron 700m is almost two years old and it's still going strong. As a matter of fact it's been my main and only rig for the past year. I got it relatively loaded (Pentium M 1.6GHz/256/40/DVD-RW/8 cell) for $750 + $119 for 1GB SODIMM from NewEgg.com

Looking back, I definitely got my money's worth and I love the 12.1" WXGA form factor.

Yah I picked up a similar set up except I got the extended battery too. The form factor is amazing. Plus, with the 3 year fool proof warranty I can't really complain that it's a dell :p

Even with $500, i don't see an inspiron that i'd take over a comparably priced sager or acer :(

you know the funny thing about those Dell 700M..

most of us got it along with the $750 off $1500 deal.

i was remarking to my ex-gf yesterday how her unit can be sell USED for the same price that she got it for on ebay. just because a reasonably priced 12 inch is harder to find these days. no idea why dell let these units go.

I think she can fetch a pretty good price for her 1.8 ghz, 768 mb, 80 gb, dvd-r 700m. add in ~$300 and switch to a macbook? or add in ~$600 for that 2.8 lb sager?

sheesh.

I do miss the $750 coupons, but I did get on a great deal about 6 months ago. Dell through a 30% coupon on the EPP site, plus the 12% EPP discount, plus the 2% DPA discount. Got me a fully loaded E1505 (maxed out just about every option) with 4 Year accidental care, "total" was $2507 paided $1527 after tax.

I cannot hardly ever use my 600m, my wife has adopted it as her own. Maybe it's time to get myself a Turon x2 and load up 64-bit Linux.
