If you were in an elevator and it started to fall...

As in, the cord snapped and you were falling quickly (to almost certain doom)...

What would you do?

Jump up and down, lie flat on the bottom, or spend the last few seconds of your life trying to escape through the roof of the elevator?

I've been watching too many movies.

By distributing your weight evenly? That's what I figured... I heard if your parachute doesn't open when you skydive, you should arrange it so your body hits the ground flat (lying on your stomach, weight evenly distributed). Every bone in your body may shatter, but you have a better chance of living that way.

I don't think I'd remember that if I was freefalling, but... it's good to know, just in case.

Probably lie on the ground. Who knows. Unless it happened, I don't think I would know. Being on top seems like a really stupid idea.

I'd wait for the emergency brakes to kick in and then Keanu Reeves and Jeff Daniels to come save me.

Logically, I think the best place to be would be to lie on top of the elevator. That way the elevator would take a lot of the impact. Although I don't think you'd have enough time to get on top of the elevator. I'd probably just piss myself and cry like Nancy Kerrigan.

I'd probably take my pants off and try to get an erection. What a funny sight that would be for the people who find me.

I met a janitor at UCLA who said that he and some woman were trapped in a plummeting elevator in a high-rise and he was almost killed. I'm not sure if she survived or how he did. He was too freaked to do anything while it was happening. He was majorly screwed up and walked with a significant limp.

I would start a YAET (Yet Another Elevator Thread) with a poll and ask the other members here for advice.

They have emergency brakes so they don't free fall very far, plus usually multiple cables holding it up. I'd be more worried about getting stuck between the doors and having it start to move...

Seriously though, if the elevator was freefalling, you'd be able to float around like the astronauts do on TV. COOL.:)

Even if that would be the best way to land.. i don't think that i could ever land that way. I'd be wayyy too scared, my natural instinct would be to stay on my feet.
