It also means he can't upgrade beyond 1GB without taking a performance hit or replacing a stick. With his budget, at the very least I would reccomending getting a single 1GB stick as dual-channel isn't that important.

What? Dual-channel memory is a very efficent type of memory.

^_^ I would get a cheapo 6600gt and a cheapo athlon 3000+

and if the new Processors and Video cards come out rma ur "NOT DAMAGED" 6600gt and 3000

for a revision E 3200 and blow the rest of the super uber supposed r520 or g80... IF THEY COME OUT 😵

First, let me say this:
For gaming, 1 GB RAM is max needed.
For heavy video editing/photo shop usage 2 GB RAM is very useful.

Now you have to decide if paying the ~$300 extra for the RAM (from 2x512 to 2X1024) is worth it. Either way, I still think you should go with a 3500+ minium though.
That DFI MB is made for OC'ing as is the 3200+. Since you're not planning on OC'ing, those 2 parts will be very upset. The scream to be OC'd. 🙂
You could save a little by getting a diferent MB and get a 3500+ within budget.
Also, why the full tower case? Not saying it's a bad thing, but you definitely don't need that much space for your hardware. You can save even more money by getting a cheaper mid tower case. I really like the TT cases, and they have several different mid tower's to choose from.
I think you need to make a decision about the RAM first, then get everything else.

I think for your purposes, you have a good configuration right now.

Either way the system will be great. I think the 3500+ is the way to go, so search in the MB forums about the Chaintech VNF4U board. It's $50 cheaper and seems to have less problems than the DFI actually. That would allow you to get the 3500+ and 2 GB RAM.

^^Well Ike, I didn't originally plan to OC my processor and MB, however after talking with you guys and a few of my friends, they all said its a good way to go, and that it should be relatively safe doin if u do it with someone who knows what the hell they're doing. With that being said, should I keep the DFI MB or should I still switch over to the Chaintech? Also if I plan on OCing should I still try to go with the 3500?

PS I couldn't find the Chaintech MB that u were talkin bout, do u know the full model name of it?

Chaintech VNF4/Ultra

If you plan to OC, the 3200+ would be a better buy because they will likely both max at about the same point. Since this is your first time OC'ing you likely won't hit the "ceiling" on the CPU, but you at an absolute minium get to 2.2 GHz (3500+ speed).
As for OC'ing, people seem to be having decent results with the Chaintech, but my personal suggestion is the MSI Neo4 Platinum. It is more expensive than even the DFI though.
MSI "K8N Neo4 Platinum

So to sum up, the 3200+/ DFI with an OC would be a very nice setup. I would do a little research on the NF4 ultra boards before I decided on one though. Just search the MB forums and you will see plenty of threads about each of these 3 boards (DFI, MSI, Chaintech) as well as some others.

Now you never did say why you decided on a full tower case. I'm just curious.

^^Well the only reason why I wanted that case was because I heard the Armor VA8000 is an awesome case, cool and quiet. I don't have a reason why I have full tower, I would take a mid tower VA8000 armor if they made it, but it doesn't look like they do. I want something that looks badass like that and also cool n quiet. The Chenbro I hear is a great choice for a mid, but its like $100 more. Now for the OCing thing, I won't be OCing on my own, I'll prolly have one of my friends OC it that have some experience in that area.....should I still go with a 3200 then?

aight then, now to double check something:

If I drop a gig in ram, and just stay 1GB and spend the extra money in a 3500, will it be a better system, same, or less?

Also, do you know a badass looking tower that is mid, cool, quiet, and just as cool lookn as that VA8000?

Well the 3500+ starts out .2 GHz higher, so that gives a small advantage.
2 GB RAM gives no real performance gain when gaming over 1 GB.
However 1 GB wil hold you back some if you do heavy graphics work while the added CPU speed helps here.
My suggestion is 1 GB and a 3200+ to OC. Like I said earlier, decide on how much RAM you want, then make the other decisions as this has the biggest impact on your budget.

Liking a particular case is highly individualistic. Personally I really like the look of the Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower (comes with or without side window). If you like it and don't mind paying that much for it, then definitely get it!

u know, after thinkn I think I'll start with 1GB and see how it performs......I'll get the 3500 upfront and OC the son of a bia lol. Does that sound good? Because I'm not a HEAVY photoshop or video editor, I just do it every now n then...more gaming than that. So with my idea I should be fine right?

Sounds great. You will really like it. 🙂

I have the 3500+ and OC it to 2.4 with no problems.
Probably could get more ,but its fast enough right now at cool temps.

one last thing, someone told me Sapphire and Seagate made crappy stuff...do u think I'll have a problem with that video card and HD?
