is that patriot ram any good, the kind u suggested? I never heard of it before. How does it match to corsair?

Not when you run just 2 DIMMs, which is why I was reccomending 1024MB modules.

As for you Intel reccomendation.. I've seen Toledo's in action and they will be available at retailers in a matter of months. So you're full of it. ^^

whats a Toledo?

It's not out yet. You even quoted me saying that. ^^ late summer, early fall. You can upgrade to it later, which is a good thing. All you'll have to do is replace the CPU. Not difficult at all.

btw, in that build u made for me I noticed there's only one hard drive and its 74GBs. What would u also recomend I get along with that for storage? I only need about 140GBs more on top of the raptor.

hey ribbon if I switched out that case with a Thermaltake v8000 (armor series) will it still be good? I just really like the case and I've heard good things about it.

You can get whatever case you want to get.

Just make sure any fans you get for it are going to fit the case.

That's perfectly fine. Chassis are really a matter of preference. I always list that Evercase because it gets the job done, 2x120mm fan openings, decent build quality, and cheap.

Id recommend an Intel 660 on the Abit A8XE Fatl1ty board, with some OCZ ddr2 and x800XL.

For a gaming computer ? You're crazy, every site in the world shows the athlon64 ahead for gaming........

He's just an Intel fanboi who is either trolling or can't read benchmaks. He's building a gaming computer not a SQL server.

No fanboy. I own both and dont think that AMD's increased gaming performance means anything outside of 3dmark scores if you have a high-end graphics card.

I understand the reason for ribbon suggesting 2X1 GB RAM, but the extra cost (nearly $300 extra) does not justify the very small gains IMO. The Corsair value RAM is 2.5 CL (they do have some that is 3.0, but why would you get that), so going to 2.0 would be better but, but no way that's worth double the price per GB.

Also, I would go with the 6800 GT at ~$375 over a $350 X800XL. I agree that at MSRP ($300), the X800XL is probably the best buy out. The reason I would go with the GT is that they easily OC and do out perform (although not by much) the X800XL's in nearly all games. But I may be a little biased here as I have a 6800 GT and love it.

It also means he can't upgrade beyond 1GB without taking a performance hit or replacing a stick. With his budget, at the very least I would reccomending getting a single 1GB stick as dual-channel isn't that important.

I agree with the idea, but not with the prices. You can get a 1 GB stick of Corsair Value for ~$150, but @ 3 CL. Maybe it would be better to just buy the 2x512 now, then when 1 GB prices drop more, sell the 2x512 and get 2X1 GB. They should eventually fall down to near the price of 2X512.
I dont know for sure, this is a tricky one.

The difference between 100 and 130fps is meaningless for gaming. I still love AMD though but I like to recommend Intel for the fun of it. See my Venice 3800+ thread in CPU forum for what you should wait for.

those were at relatively low resolutions, up the resolution and the difference between 40fps and 70fps is big. there's no way around it amd is better hands down in games

so Ribbon and Ike, whats ur call? 2GBs in dual channel or 2GB's in single sticks? I would think single sticks would be better wouldn't it, if I go with that patriot ram she suggested?
