If you were given the opportunity to ride a submersible to the Marianas Trench

Would you go? I see that several different teams are racing to get there this coming summer. I was thinking to myself there is no way in hell Id ride one of those subs down there. At that depth, the pressure is just under 16000psi!!

Some people are afraid of heights. Im afraid of deep water.

I would, but I have long been fascinated by the deep, and especially the creatures that live. Virtually every deep (like abyssal zone and deeper) sea exploration, new species are discovered.

If the Trieste could reach the bottom of Challenger Deep in the 60's safely, I would think with today's tech it would be even safer.

Isn't Branson working on a project for deep sea exploration?

This is one of the subs planning to go:

Some people are afraid of heights..

I'm afraid of widths.

Not a big deal, if your boat fails at that depth death will be instantaneous and pain-free. You wouldn't have time to utter "What the F.." before being squashed like a bug.

I don't think there'd be much interesting to see that wouldn't be just as good watching from a robot, and camera. I'd rather dive for treasure in shallower water.

Yes.

I was actually saying this to my wife a few days ago. We were watching something about deep sea exploration and she asked if I would go down on the Alvin. I said "Hell yes" and she told me I was nuts.

Definitely. I'll do pretty much anything as long as it's not illegal immoral or dangerous.

Going to the moon at least you could get out and walk around. Making it to the deepest part of the ocean is all like "Yay, I survived."

Yes...but I gotta be able to have my cigarette break every hour or two...

"Hey, pull over. I gotta get out and have a smoke."

As a former submariner, yes I would happily go.
As it happens, I am afraid of heights. This is partly why I volunteered for submarine duty.

I have not heard being afraid of widths before. That was good. :D

I think there would be some noises that will terrify you to death before you get crushed into a singularity.

I would love to take the dive because sudden death sure beats the shit out of long, lingering death.

No. Sea voyage to nowhere, then spend hours in a tiny submersible descending to the sea floor only to see mud.

Definately I would go. I'd much rather go to space, but I would happily travel to the depths of the sea.
