MRVC and JDS

MRV because its at a low. Only way to go is up. They have some really good companies under them for fiber optic communications. Same with JDS although JDS has a second benefit that they can apply their losses from this year to future years. They bought some companies using all stock when their stock was at a high. Now that their stock is low $8 or so, i'll imagine they will rapidly increase in the near future. Although all industries are slowing down right now, it's only a matter of time.

If it's not fiber optic communications stocks, I would be picking up pharmaceutical or security stocks.

I'm not stock broker :D... although alot of my relatives and friends are in that industry. I jsut do my research and usually have a gut feeling about stocks. Take Aura Systems (AURA.OB). Originally a Nasa contracted company, they went public after getting the boot during defense and space cutbacks. Initially invested like $5K into it. They dropped off Nasdaq. Although I lost some money during that time, they're roughly around $0.40/share right now. Their low was around $0.30. I bought in as well as my family at the $0.30 and sold at its high around $0.70. Easily doubled our money. At the low price we put in add'l $5K to offset our inital losses and hopefully get back some more. So needless to say I'm happy about it now. :)

With stocks its more of knowing what's gonna be a hit. You kind of have to play fortune teller. I don't believe in day trading (although my mom bought and sold MRV at the beginning and end of last week almost doubling). Right now everything's so volatile that watching the news the night before and just understanding basic trends, you should be able to make quite a bit. It gets stressful at times but you just have to hang in there and not worry about it. And you should never play with money that you cannot afford to lose. Just like gambling. I think that's why ppl stress out way too much. They put a big chunk of their savings or retirement into it and when they see that they've lost half of it, they start freaking out.

The large drops, or corrections I like to see them as, reduces the cost of overinflated stocks so that the regular person can begin to invest in those companies. The day of a big drop, i like to see as weeding out the weak. Especially after the markets reopened after the 9/11 situation.

Anyways, $10K is quite a big sum, if you really have this much to invest, well for that matter if you have any sum of money to invest, do your own research and ask yourself if that company fits. What I mean by that is don't buy into the hype. I didn't with the .coms and look at me, i still have my investments and they're all doing well right now despite the fact of recent events.

Right now hot items are pharms and bio-tech. Biotech was starting to become a hot seller even before the WTC incident in the wake of failing .coms.

good luck to all of you who are investing. :D

Is Vivendi Universal a good place to invest in? I would think so, considering people are trying to get over the recent tradegy, that they would want some forms of entertainment to clear their minds up.

Btw, know any good Bio-Tech companies?

If this is your only money, invest it into the S&P 500 with perhaps some in the DOW, NasDaq, and Russel 2000...

If it is just extra money, then that is a more complex question...

How about GE & AMAT...

Bio-tech

Anything dealing with heart disease, cancer research, human genome project.

Amgen was one that I had invested in a while back. I have investmented in Cooper. Some other ones may be cosmetic applications of technology. In particular, an innovative yet inexpensive laser product for treatment of skin cancer or skin disease, or just general dermatology. Our generation is a vain one and so are the GenXers. With so man more middle aged ppl, I believe there will be a big boom in the search for eternal youthfulness.

Oh, btw peeps. I'm not actually going to invest in anything :)

This was just a small question on my Business Education Assignment that let me have $10,000 US and pick two stocks, then list reasons why I picked them :p
I was kinda stumped and finished all my other questions on my assignment so I asked the great people at ATOT :D

I know you know what bio-tech is. just mentioning some possible things that the companies would do which would be wise investments ;)

Regarding youthful appearance, with laser technologies, you can acheive this. Check out ESC Medical and Coherent. They're systems are way too expensive and I think it'll only be a matter of time before it becomes so affordable that you can do it at home. The only hurdle for this is the FDA. IMO opinion rather than use high power lasers, you can essectially do the same thing but on a smaller level with heat. Most of the laser technologies use heat to either resurface the skin or remove hair. If heat transfer can be made effectively and efficiently to the skin, then that's the solution. Also a pain free solution would be best (or at least a less painful solution).

That's only external. What about the heart and stuff? Won't that just slowly decay?

There's new technology also using lasers to 'perforate' the heart tissue. This allows more blood and oxygen to get into the heart tissue. In recent research, this has shown to improve the tissue. This may or may not be able to be applied to other organs. But the tissue isn't going to decay if it's living. Dead tissue decays.

It's too bad that you didn't ask this question two weeks ago,as I would have told you to buy AMD and NVDA. I got into them cheap after the crash, and made a quick 25% on the rebound. Sweet!
