I can see that the eye looks tortured and horrible, but what exactly is it? Like some piece of weird bumpy flesh drops down to cover up your eyeball??

i think i wore my contacts as long as 3 days in a row (soft), without any kind of solution. never had a problem, except eye boogies in the morning 🙂.
Ah, well that must mean that you'll never have any eye problems then.

I've said over and over in ATOT about the importance of taking care of your eyes. And even still, many people seem to think the added 30 seconds of taking out their contacts at night is a waste of their valuable time.

I sincerely hope your story (Moose) prevents someone else from doing even more serious damage to their eyes.

Thank you for continuing to spread the good word, Wingznut. Let's hope everyone takes heed of the potential for (entirely needless) damage.

Oddly enough, removing and cleaning my contacts each and every night is something that only occurred to me as being common sense the very day I started to first wear my (2-month disposable) soft contacts three years ago...

I actually just got myself a pair of glasses because I would constantly sleep in my contacts. My eyes were not able to breathe properly and the blood vessels were starting to creep towards my retina(i think). So now I can just wear my glasses when I'm around the house.

That's how my GPC started out 3 weeks ago. It got worse, eye boogies so bad, my eye was stuck shut Friday morning.

dude i get eye boogies every morning since i was a baby! they just expand when you wear your contacts overnight. But ones that clamp your eye shut? thats crazy. that happened to me once when i was younger i thought i was blind, i didn't wear contacts back then it was just a weird coinsidence.

i only wear contacts overnight once a month if i have to! but now i take solution where ever i go so i dont have to worry about it.

cool info mooseknuckle - sorry it has to be at your expense. I just started wearing contacts and was cleaning the inside more than the outside of the lenses better, thinking that was the most important surface.

Actually, they start growing into the iris (not the retina) in search of oxygen... At any rate, that's exactly what happened to me, when I was too damn lazy to clean my contacts every night. I figured, like many others here, that it was "ok to wear my contacts until they got uncomfortable." Then one day my eye doctor refuses to give me more contacts. And I'm glad he did, because I learned my lesson. Had those vessels grown much longer, I would've had perminent damage.

I still wear contacts... I just somehow manage to find the 30 seconds at night to put them away.

i work contacts for 13 years before i had lasik surgery. i never had a problem, but then again i took them out every single day and cleaned them with the exception of about 4-5 nights when i slept with them in.

AHA, so you were young and irresponsible at one time (too). I wondered why you were "preaching" so much in that other thread. 😉
