If you use your turn signals, why do you do it?

They are called "safety" features because they help people drive safely. When people drive safely, there are less chances for accidents. Are you seeing the benefits yet?

Mirror - So you know whats going on, read 'window' into that too. A 'life saver' look over the shoulder should not be underestimated.
SIGNAL - So that other road users understand your intentions and are aware of your intention
Maneuver - When it is safe to do so

Thats how I was taught and I'll be dammed if I can shake the habit.

Proper use of turn signals is the law in WA state, failure to use them is ~$77 fine (IIRC) and 2 points on your license. But you're right, no one ever uses them in the Seattle area it seems. But then everyone rides the left lane up there and that's against the law too.

What's worse is if you pull out thinking they are going to turn, and when they then hit you you'd be at fault. Until they have committed to the turn (IE turned wheels and start turning) having a blinker on does not mean you 'must' turn. IANAL but that's how it's been explained to me over the years. So, wait until it REALLY is SAFE to go before trusting someone and their signal.

some people, like myself, have to learn the hard way that in California when you have a change of direction (left/right turn) you will need to signal, or you can nearly kill a motorcycle cop, like i could have done two years ago. luckily, i just got a ticket for not signaling and now all i do is signal.

BTW - people who don't use their blinkers are #1 on my list to get ran over (if I have the opportunity), and I'll even use my blinkers at the same time if I have to.

I use my signals everyhwere too...
I figure if I'm driving really fast and going in and out of lanes I'm pissing enough people off...so if I at least signal and courtesy wave that's the elast I can do
That and I do a lot of unexpected things while I drive....such as after I turn I'll swithc lanes real fast to pass the person that turned in front of me and sometimes they don't expect me to be there....

Usually I signal an instant before I hit my brakes so people aren't like why the f*ck is that idiot braking for no reason...
