I would never use Rogaine because it makes you have to use it forever. It's still better than hair transplants. Hair transplant = EVIL.

Using rogaine by itself probably isn't going to do much good in the long run. You also need something to block the DHT that is attacking the hair follicles, otherwise more will just keep falling out, even if new hair is growing as a result of the rogaine. Your choices for DHT blocking drugs are finasteride (proscar/propecia) and dutasteride (avodart). There are also topical DHT blockers, although they aren't as effective overall.

Personally, I have been using minoxidil (rogaine) 5% for 3 years, finasteride for 2.5 years, and nizoral 2% for 2.5 years, and have stopped, but not reversed, my hairloss. I'm probably going to step it up to dutasteride here in a week or so. If that doesn't make it any better, I guess there will be a shaved head in my future, as dutasteride is the strongest DHT blocker there is. If that doesn't make things better, I guess nothing will ;)
