conforming to CSS standards or being incompatible with other OSes are NOT reasons, that doesn't affect me at all.
Those are very good reasons, regardless of whether they affect you. Your 'preferences' are not the benchmark for browser comparison. The factors you mentioned, amongst many others, are exactly why Firefox is better than IE.
Well okay, I guess we both should've more clearly defined what we meant by "better." When I say better, I mean for me, things that I see and notice. Even if FF is better for the "industry," or developers, or whatever else, how can you expect those things to be factors to me in choosing which to use? Just like with any software, I choose the one that offers me the best experience and with a good price. In this case, they're both free, and one of them is already installed, does everything I want, and offers better compatibility with websites. So for me it's a no-brainer. I am sorry that IE isn't as easy to develop for and isn't cross-platform, and maybe if everyone switched to FF it would force MS to take care of those things, but it's not like I'm going to start some kind of revolution by switching myself.

Perhaps it's not better for you, that's fine, I suppose, even though each person that uses IE makes my life that bit more difficult. Preferences aside, FF is a superior browser. Much lower number of security exploits, better page caching, better user interface - IMO -, much more and better plug-ins, including better plug-in management, more frequent security updates, and updates altogether. IE is always behind the curve on items such as standards support, as you know, SVG support, 8-bit alpha channel PNG support, Javascript support, various user-end features such as tabbed browsing, again Microsoft is playing catch-up to what other browsers had for some time, and so on. And that's only scratching the surface, all aspects of the Firefox are configurable. You can route, filter, modify ANYTHING. It's easy as pie to change your user agent to mimic a crawler.

The problem with IE, apart from the Microsoft aspect of the situation, is that it's built for your computer illiterate parents and little school girls. It doesn't try to excel in it's abilities because it's user base doesn't request for it to do so. A supply/demand type of situation. Firefox is exactly what IE pretends to be. In fact Safari or Opera, pretty much any browser other than IE is better than IE. Sure most people won't notice the difference. Most people won't notice the difference between Logitech Z560s and a pair of Dynaudios, it doesn't change the reality of the situation. Use it if it works for you, but don't claim they're equal.

IE7 runs like a diseased slug on my laptop. Reason enough for me to use Firefox.

90% (my guesstimate) of all malware targets IE vulnerabilities, not FF vulnerabilities. A good reason to use FF.
Microsoft has a dreadful commercial which runs all the time (the Vista, Wow one). A reason to NOT use IE 🙂

Ya know, I am actually impressed by IE7pro. It really does make IE7 behave more like how I have FF setup.

Is there anyway to make Inline Search search for text as I start typing like FF does?

It's doing that on mine, and I didn't change anything.

Weird, because I have to hit CTRL + F first.

Oh well, it's a nice start but I'm going to stick with FF for now. IE7Pro is still a step back from what I'm used to with the ease of FF.

Remember, IE is the default browser on the OS, NOT FF, so you need to convince me to switch in the first place. Giving me ways that FF can make up for its shortcomings are not going to do that. You need to provide reasons why FF will give me, as an end-user, a better experience and security than IE7 with its add-ons, and no one has even come close to doing that yet.

arent you actually telling us about the shortcomings of IE7 (how you got all those extensions to make it do what FF does)?

and besides, not having those features (as in, any extension) in the first place doesnt make FF messed up, it makes it more customizable. extensions shouldnt be viewed as shortcomings...

wtf is inline search btw?

if its the search as you type option, then you can just enable it in options (to the user above me).

also, is there any extensions that let me double click to close a tab? i want to test this feature out (which is why FF is awesome 🙂 )

All I'm saying is that IE7 is on my system by default, so if I can make it do everything I want with a few simple add-ons why get FF? If there are FF extensions that I wanted that IE7 didn't have an equivalent of, then sure, but it doesn't currently.

which is why FF is awesome..... wait what are you referring to there? There IS an add-on to let you double-click to close a tab for IE.

Yeah it's called the host file. People should have one of these regardless of what browser they use.

I'll admit IE7 is pretty damn good. The only thing that prevents me from using it is how the back button is not as fast as FF or Opera, and how it always asks if I want to save my tabs before I close. FF and Opera just assume I want to remember them, unless I go into the settings and tell them otherwise.

If you don't have a reason to switch, don't. They're all pretty good.
