swtethan thats if you remember to uninstall Bioshock. Now lets say we go forward 2 years and all games have this same protection your telling me your willing to uninstall 30 games or more just to suit game companies before upgrading your video card ?

I am sorry but this is way to much of a hassle to have to do everytime I want to upgrade.

WHERE have you seen documentation saying you have to uninstall Bioshock before upgrading your video card? From what I have seen, it is just if you overhaul your whole system (CPU & mobo and the Operating system installation).

Enough is enough. Show me where it states you need to uninstall Bioshock or any game that will employ the same protections AS bioshock before changing a graphics card for another.

Better still, I will purchase Bioshock this weekend. I will install it on my system with my 8800GTS installed. THEN, I will take out my GTS and install my 7600GT.

Now you say, I shouldn't be able to play Bioshock after I do this. Let's see.

I'll get back to you.

With SecuROM? ?s Product Activation concept, Sony DADC offers software publishers the possibility to secure their content either distributed via the physical or electronic sales channel with one solution. Only legitimate customers who have purchased the product are able to unlock the program which isbound to the hardware after activation. This ensures that once activated, it cannot be transferred to another PC and therefore not being mass pirated. SecuROM? ?s Product Activation can be easily combined with Sony DADC?s n-CD solution. Let your end-customers register first and collect important market information prior allowing them to use your software products. See www.n-cd.com for more information.

Contrast what these guys are doing, with what Stardock did with their hit Galactic Civilizations II, which managed to be a best seller while at the same time having no copy protection and optional serial number registration.

Its already "out in the wild"

So they are in essence pissing everyone off for what amounted to a what? 6 day delay for pirates?

I had to re-activate Windows Vista when all I did was overclock my CPU and videocard. It thought it was new hardware. It's so stupid; they punish the people who actually buy the software. I had similar issues with XP.

There has to be a better way to build in copy protection that the user won't notice or have to deal with.

- NO Widescreen support

It works fine and exactly as intended.

No, it's not real Widescreen. It's a cropped 4:3 source.

It's as if when Star Wars was originally released on DVD, they had just cropped a 16:9 image from the 4:3 VHS movies and called it a day.

No you are wrong, its made for widescreen POV, the 4:3 adds the tops and bottoms. Read other threads and you will find out.

Well, you are right. I read the official statements from 2k, and yes; I stand corrected. They didn't crop the 4:3 image; they added more to the 16:9 image.

Actually, I wouldn't back down that quickly. Check later in the "widescreen" threads, and you'll see that the official "explanation" is likely BS. Take a look at the 4:3 and 16:10(9) screenshots and notice the hand: it's chopped off in widescreen. Tell me, what was the last first-person shooter that you played with a melee weapon that cut off part of the hand from view? Starting from Half-life 1, the crowbar: full hand and wrist. Counterstrike the knife: full hand and wrist. Bioshock wrench: full hand and wrist. Oops... most/all the earlier games were probably designed in 4:3, but the announcement says the designed it in 16:9. Hmmm.... the jigs up? And yes I know the first two examples are both Valve games, but those are the only ones I remember perfectly from heavy use. The overall idea is that the WS implementation produces an "unnatural" view that is out of the ordinary and quite clearly cut off at some point. If they really did "design" it this way, then the devs have a pretty screwed up view.

I dare anyone on this forum to uninstall Bioshock then reinstall it on another pc, then uninstall it again and reinstall it again. I bet the third time it won't work. Even after uninstalling the 2 activations you were given are not given back. I just tried it on a friend's copy he bought at Circuitcity and now we can't get it to install on any of his pcs. He has a gaming pc, secondary pc and a laptop for college.

The best thing you can do is not to get this game and save yourselves from all the BS. There are new titles coming up such as MOH Airborne and others that will make you forget about Bioshock fairly quickly. I already did...

So how many of you here refuse to buy the product legitimately? What is the big deal? Buy it, use it, shelf it. So much belly-aching for nothing. Well, nothing if your used to buying your software legitimately anyways. And the guy from 2K said it himself. It can be reinstalled and installed over and over again. And if there is a problem, call up to get another activation, or properly deactivate your old install. A lot of you folks are gonna miss out on a lot of games if this it THAT much of a major inconvenience for you. Sooooo much work. The agony. Yes, that was sarcasm. :D

Levine said they up the limit to 5 installs. He also said that at a have the ability to disable this feature and at undetermined date they will set the game so activation won't be necessary. If you don't play this game you are missing out. It's really fun.

That will work for me when I buy it in ~6 months or so. I almost never buy newly released games. PC gaming is complicated enough without having to jump through hoops just to buy/install the game in the first place. If it takes too much effort to buy/install a retail game...might push a lot of peeps into "learning" how to "get" the game for free;) IMO.

Well...I guess I at least get to save $50. To bad, I was excited about this game too.
