My friend was skateboarding at the University of Puget Sound campus a few months ago (it is just a couple blocks from his house), when he got a trespassing charge. This basically bans him from there from 6 months.

He turned 18 on Thursday. There is a main street that runs straight through the UPS campus (more like on one side of it, the only thing on the other side is the stadium). Last night he was going through this street on his way home, because some of my friends and I live just a few blocks away from the campus on the other side.

Well he got picked up and now he is in jail until Monday, because that is when they happened to give him his court date for an MIP he also got last year (it had been so long nobody expected he would get it in the mail now). No visiting hours either.

The system sucks. Ramble on about how he deserves it, but you've still got to admit that the delay of everything (the trespassing thing must have been 5 months old by now) really came up and kicked his ass at the last moment, and add that on to just a day after his turning 18.

so basically he got caught trespassing, tried to do it again, and got caught again? And the system sucks?

Where he was at was not, in my opinion, part of "campus." It is a main road that passes alongside of the campus, but on the opposite side is the field they use for football games so I guess they call this public road "campus." Plus the combination of other factors, I don't think he deserves 3 days in jail for walking down a public road (or skating on campus, or the combination).
