Why the hate for turkey bacon? I haven't had turkey bacon in a long time, but I used to love it. Back in high school during the summer, I'd fry up some turkey bacon, make myself a BLT, and eat it while playing Counter-Strike.

It sounds terrible, but don't think I've ever actually tried it.

I knew there was something wrong with you. Unless I had nothing else to eat, I would never voluntarily choose to cook and eat turkey bacon over other food.

For me, it's that the "leanness" is um, "anti-appetizing" and adds complication when cooking; oil has to be added and gets absorbed rather than get rendered from the meat. The flavor of something tasting sort of like a turkey but in a rather distant manner doesn't jive either.

Having eaten both pork belly in Western form via bacon and Chinese form via hong shao rou, that probably impressed expectations on me at a very early age.

As a filler, turkey could substitute for more expensive meat, like putting it in a sandwich. Or in the case of ground turkey, adding seasoning to make a chili or wonton filling can cover up the scent of natural turkey flavor.

I recall years ago when my friend from Montana served me an "Elk-burger" without giving me heads-up it wasn't beef.

His excuse was "it tastes exactly the same so why bother?

(this is NOT accurate.... in fact its not even close Elk is very similar to venison)

Elk is pretty healthy meat but yeah, the way to season and flavor it does require a bit of brainpower to figure out.

I like venison and elk (especially in chili!) BUT they don't taste anything like beef no matter how you season them provided you have taste-buds that work.

Elk chops are delicious, but not huge on using it as a burger. On the other hand Bison burgers are delicious and Bison Filet Mignon is one of the best steaks I've ever had.

Yep. I tried pasta sauce and ground venison recently. The taste is not the same as 27%fat ground beef and pasta sauce(and some onions).

I'll stir the pot some more.

Well-prepared pig face is tastier than bacon.

That said, I've only had it from Top Chef Season 4's winner Stephanie Izard's restaurant:

turkey bacon is not bacon, and chicken fajitas are not fajitas.

Well, that's a new argument for me. I am adopting a counter position.
fajita refers specifically to the part of the cow you want on the taco. lengua, fajita, barbacoa, etc. it'd be like asking for chicken sirloin or chicken prime rib.

For more than half the time the word has been in use, it has referred to pretty much anything grilled with onions and peppers.

But a fajita isn't a taco, it's a fajita?

which doesn't contradict what i said. fajita is the meat. it's literally a particular muscle in a cow. fajita is spanish for little belt, and it refers to the diaphragm muscle. chickens, have lungs also probably have those but its so minor as to be of no consequence culinarily.

I've never seen that before... I have sliced sausages up a bit like that to have on sandwiches, though.

Man, you guys are rough. I still say turkey bacon is fine - I'll even buy some the next time I go grocery shopping just to spite all of you... and I'm going to enjoy it.
