As someone who's super experienced with Asian cuisine and eaten mountains of pork belly and bacon, I have to disagree. If you can't appreciate the greatness of bacon, you don't like pork meat.

As someone who's super experienced with critical thinking, and eaten mountains of pork products in general, because I think one pork product is truly overhyped and overmarketed has some better variations means I don't like pork meat? I mean that's ridiculous. I mean bacon is good but it's so overhyped. Apparently you are just more susceptible to excessive marketing schticks than the avergae joe. 'Bacon makes everything better!' - such such dumb low IQ marketing.

Let's see, I absolutely love pork souvlaki, pork gyros, al pastor, various pork sausages from breakfast varieties to brats to italian, various pork salumeria, carnitas/pulled pork, sheftalia (Greek Sausage), canadian bacon, taylor ham, pork ribs whether asian or southern BBQ, I use ground pork for a variety of sautes, and random other pork dishes - but because I think the chasu you get in a great bowl of ramen is just a superior use of pork belly over bacon I don't like pork meat?

Silly ridiculous statement.

Now lets argue about favorite .... I mean THE BEST!!!1!!1! ice cream flavor!

:p

I can't say there is one best ice cream flavor to me, that would be crazy talk! I don't even think there is one best pork dish, I just know bacon is not the be all end all of pork and nor is it even the best way to use pork belly to me!

I like bacon more than pork belly, and spicy tomato is clearly the best ice cream flavor. Old fashioned, you know?

IMO most of the best of the flavor of bacon comes from it being smoked.
If you cut the fat away, then you still have salt and nitrates.

Oh yeah, from time to time we make cherrywood smoked bacon sourdough melts with smoked cheddar. Matter of fact, might be time to make them again soon...

Bacon is great on a BLT, but usually makes burgers worse, unless it's a bacon jam.

I don't think I've ever had a burger that was made worse with bacon. If it's got too much bacon on it, just pull the bacon out and eat it until it's got the appropriate amount of bacon! :D

I'm not the one who made the silly ridiculous statement. Let me refresh your memory.
Bacon is pork belly used incorrectly.
This is silly ridiculous statement. I would go far as to say it's a stupid statement. Even the dumbest hipster wouldn't say such ridiculous thing. The only reasonable conclusion I can make to such idiotic statement about bacon is pork belly used incorrectly is to assume you're a vegetarian or just hate pork meat. No sane person would say bacon is pork belly used incorrectly.

Bacon is good, never said it was bad, but it's just so so overrated. It's partly the result of a shit ton of basic level marketing.

A good pork belly chasu done at a Japanese ramen joint that knows what they are doing is just a tastier way to use the belly IMO, since bacon can come from that cut of pork, among other cuts in that area. It's really not a ridiculous statement at all. I mean you can like bacon better, I don't care, I['m not gonna say you don't like pork meat if that's your opinion. But the worship of bacon is what is ridiculous.

It appears we DO understand each other. ;)

("best" is completely subjective with stuff like food)

I wouldn't say bacon is an incorrect use of pork belly; though perhaps Squished meant actually intended to mean sub-optimal. Certainly though, it can get little tiresome if you eat it everyday or if something else that tastes better hits your mouth. If the brand manufacturer gets the seasoning mix wrong, it can also reduce the goodness in eating it, which is why I do not hold Applegate's bacon in high regard. I generally don't eat more than three strips when I do eat it but that's just my body's satiety limit, not an expression of of like or dislike.

I mean sure, I do find hong shao rou(紅燒肉)is just as decadent and yummy to eat as bacon, and hong shao rou is better than bacon alone when eaten with white rice. But bacon gives me plenty of pleasure as well, so something is done right with bacon.

On the bacon thing .....

I'm not fond of the long, neat, tidy strips in the expensive and fancy packaging. I buy the junk that some places throw away ... the oddballs, 'ends and pieces'. All scraps and irregular cuts stuffed in a vac-pack bag for 1/3 or less the cost of the fancy strips. It's all the same stuff and tastes the same, just not all neat and purdy.

And you cut off all those pieces of whitish visible fat, leaving only the reddih visible meat, how much fat is still within that meat? I bet it is very little and your bacon now has waaay more protein than fat and is extremely healthy and still tastes great, especially when used to flavor other things...
Just buy back bacon rather than streaky bacon.

um.. buy lean bacon?

at costco where you can actually see the whole bacon piece (unlike oscar meyer), pick only the lean packs.
been successful in doing that over the years.

if i dont see any after looking at a few, i come back next week and try again.

I cannot even tolerate turkey bacon, ground turkey, etc. It's just not the same.

The best way to eat a turkey is the Thanksgiving method of cooking turkey.

The absolute worst are turkey hot dogs IMO .... freaking nasty! :confused_old:

Why the hate for turkey bacon? I haven't had turkey bacon in a long time, but I used to love it. Back in high school during the summer, I'd fry up some turkey bacon, make myself a BLT, and eat it while playing Counter-Strike.

I actually don't mind turkey bacon, but I wouldn't deliberately buy it. Definitely not as good as the genuine article.
Ground turkey is okay, but again, not a real substitute for beef. I mostly bought it when it was cheaper than ground beef, and I was on a budget.
