If you smoke, when did you start, and why did you try it?

18. As DarkThinker said, felt good and loved the smell.

Stopped 1 week later. It's not hard to realize you don't feel right after a few days.

When I turned 18, I went and bought a pack of cigarettes with my friends. I smoked on and off for 1 year, then I smoked regularly for 3 more years until I quit cold turkey.

My brother and I lit up some butts in my parent's car when I was 7 or 8. circa 1982.

In '94 when I moved to T.O. for university, I bought a pack of smokes one night when I was bored.

I smoked off and on for about 12-13 years but haven't had my own pack since last October. I've been known to light up when I am out with friends having some beers.

I smoked a few when I was around 17 and would bum them sometimes until I started like a year and a half ago. Not really sure why.

My friend had a pack and I was curious at 16. Been smoking on and off since then (am 19 now) but have recently quit due to soccer. Though I had one when I was tripping the other night, I can usually say no even if I'm drunk.

17, I only started because I wanted to be cool, and what is cooler than smoking? I quit last year.

First was about 16, wanted to try it, thought it was cool, quit for about a year at 20, started again when working with my brother, still smoking at 38

First time was 14, one time only. Then I bought some when I was 18, smoked for maybe 2 years, then quit. I was never a chainsmoker. I still get a craving for it. I didn't smoke because I thought it was cool, I just enjoyed it. The smell, the taste, having something to do when you're standing around. I miss it, but I know I'm better off not smoking.

How can you love the smell? It smells like total ass. I can't stand being within 20 ft of someone smoking.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I like bowling for the smoke AND the bowling.

Started when I was around 16 'cause it was cool. Ended up smoking 3-4 packs a day (30) years worth. Finally got a patch in 1996 and was able to quit. I still get cravings occasionally.

I quit smoking cigarettes, though still enjoy a cigar every now and again.
I started smoking because I was drunk and stupid, I think I was 19 or so.

Tried it in HS because some friends did. Smoked in college because all of the smart FOBs did.

I was promised asse from a girl when I was a sophomore in college. I smoked and I got asse.. so yea, it was worth it. Now a days, I smoke when other people smoke -- bum cigerattes off of them. I probably average 1 cig every month... use too smoke a lot during the weekends first few years after college.. but those days are long gone :) besides less people are smoking, etc...

While I like the cigeratte buzz... never really addicted... genetics probably.. parents were not smokers. I think I saw my dad smoke 2-3 times in my entire life...

My then girlfriend smoked at the time back in '01-'02 She smoked Camels, I tried those and did'nt like them.
Bought a pack of clove ciggarettes (Djarum) and smoked for about 1 mth. After that I stopped............ That ciggarette taste in your mouth while you have a hang over, is not the best feeling **LOL**

Is it true that clove ciggarettes can be smoked legally by people 17 and under in the US?

Cloves still have tobacco, so I doubt anyone underage would be allowed to buy them. Love 'em tho! :)

I was an irritating militant non-smoker all the way until 21. The girl I was hot for was a smoker and I found I could take plenty of "smoke breaks" with her. Stupidly, I asked her for a cigarette and smoked it, bitching "Bleh! How can you stand this?". Then did it again, and again, until I realized it was actually pretty good. (Dammit!)

Been an off and on smoker for 10 years now... : /
