I shave almost every day with an electric razor...sometimes I forget, especially on the weekends, but never for more than a couple days if I'm working. If you shave every day, your facial hair will grow use to the razor and become easier to cut. Problematic areas for me in the past have been on my neck/adam's apple area. No matter what electric razor I used it'd end up cutting me. This year I got a Norelco 9195XL for Christmas and it works like a charm...

It's easier to shave every day rather than every 1+ days.
But what do I know, I've only been shaving for 40 years.

I shave every morning, and it sucks no matter what. Using an electric razor, it leaves a bit of stubble, especially on my neck. Using a regular razor (Mach 3), I get a rash on one spot of my neck if I shave it every day. The *only* thing that prevents that from happening is if I can get absolutely scalding hot water to use. *shrug* it sucks.

Sensor Excel, shave at least a couple times a week. Use a new blade each time. Wash your face every day and before going to bed. Use moisturizer, after the shower and the nightly wash and that's it.

If you use a razor blade, it must be sharp. Can't keep using an "old" one.
Put warm/hot water on your face several times, then shaving cream. Rub it in a bit. Instead of shaving immediately, let it sit a while, but not so long that it starts to dry off. Use two fingers like gentle spring action to hold the razor. Careful on bumps and acute angles of your face (ie edge of chin, etc). Rinse the razor frequently.

Might want to keep a styptic pencil handy to stop a cut from bleeding. Yeah, it will sting but it works (wet the "pencil" first, then apply to cut). Cuts usually happen b/c you are in a hurry. Or it's your first week of shaving, ever.

Plus, ONLY shave after you get out of the shower. If you wash your face really well with soap, the hair will be softer, and will cut easier. Hence, the three S's.....sh|t, shower, and shave. In that order only, and you'll be good to go.

I shower, shave, then sh|t that way the bathroom doesn't stink the whole time I'm in there. ;)

That's dirty.

If you use an electric shaver, us a liquid lubricant on your face made for that purpose. An electric will always give some "burn", and not cut as closely as a regular razor blade.

My upper lip and chin area was always a problem that's why I've had a Goatee for the last 10 years.

Use a quality shaving cream and a good sharp razor. Wash your face with warm/hot water first. Pull the skin tight on your face/neck when you shave. It'll get a closer cut without cutting you. ;)

Used to have the same problem when I used regular razors. Switched to an electric razor, and once my face adjusted to it, it worked great. Hardly ever cut myself and it takes less time. If you still want to use the regular razor I found that if I shaved right after taking a shower, I got a better shave. I guess the hot water helps soften up the facial hair.

I find I get a better shave if I shave every other day using my electric. It's easier on my skin too.

I wonder how much laser hair removal would cost to remove all facial hair? Probably a few thousand?

Best advice so far in this thread. I must admit; I chuckled the whole way thru this thread...most of you (not DB) sound like a bunch of 15 year olds that've never seen a razor before. Sadly, most of you probably ARE. :p

For those w/acne; you have real issues, and I'm sorry for you...good luck. :)

If you don't have acne, you're just a pu$$y. Wash your face with warm water, lather up well, use a new razor with hot water and rinse it often. You'll be a man...someday.

I havent cut myself shaving in probably 10 years.

I used to shave 1-2 times a day. Fvckers wanted me to be clean shavin and Id have a bad 5'clock shadow if I shaved in the morning.

Now I shave every other day. Much easier on the skin.

Shaving with acne isnt that bad if you know how to shave. I have mild to moderate acne that breaks out on my nose, upper lip around my nose, and my chin. Its not that bad shaving when I break out.

Take better care of your skin, that will help.

What does this mean?

Keep your face clean and moisturized daily. Use a quality razor and shaving gel. Don't reuse the same razor dozens of times (I replace Schick Extreme3 every week or two). Use a quality after shave gel when you're done, it will keep your face from drying out.

Shaving thread day today . . .

I have sensetive sking and thick beard. Shaving every day is a pain - and I DO know how to shave.

Consider getting a Safety Razor - (old school razor with double-sided flat blades). use a proper shaving brush and GOOD shaving soap (Mug is not good shaving soap). I use this English stuff. It is $, but a small tub lasts ages, you only need a bit.

Try Googling "wet shave" and see what yu come up with. I guarantee, if you stick with it for a few months (takes a bit of re-learning) you will never go back.

This type of shaving has never gone away in Europe and Asia - just NA has the fashion for cartridge razors taken over so completely.

It's easier if you shave every day. Whenever I let it grow in for a week the razor ends up pulling on the long whiskers and that's what causes pain. It is essential to always use a sharp razor. Preferably, a nice fresh one.
