Just wondering, because I saw a bunch of people's eyes wandering in my midterm just about an hour ago.

yes, people of lesser intelligence should be out in the coal mines or flipping burgers, not getting by because of someone else's intellectual efforts

WTF. What kind of asshole would "tell the teacher" that someone is cheating? That is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. If it doesn't harm you, leave it alone. Hell, if I was a professor and someone came up and told me that someone else was cheating, I would remember his name and grade the hell out of his paper... marking off for any tiny thing.

no.

however, if i see someone cheating off my test, i'm likely to obscure it from their view (not in an obvious manner, but so they can't see it as easily). the last thing i'd want is for him to get caught and for me to be accused in cheating with him.

unless it's a hot girl......then all rules go out the window. :p

If someone is cheating off of my test, yes. Otherwise no.

Why? Because if our answers match, we will BOTH be under suspicion.

It does harm you, if they do not have the intelligence to pass on their own, then they should fail, otherwise they will be taking a job away from a truely qualified person.

I can't stand peopel that tell. Let them pay for cheating when they get to the real world or the next class up. Half the stuff you learn in class will be useless anyways, b/c usually you will forget in due time.

No.
That is a good one. I was one to take my tests on my own. Several classes I took had massive amounts of cheating. In a couple instances i would say it cost me my grade. I had one class with group take home tests and homework, the catch was you were limited to the time you were supposed to spend on tests(2 hrs), and groups coulnd't intermingle. Of course my group followed the rules(I will say i was willing to fudge the rules but other group members were not, it was there last semester and they were set for grad school) and we did extremely poorly on the assignments. I ended up with a C, had we cheated I could have easily gotten a B, maybe even an A. Cheating is a real bitch when it hurts others. I never said anything to the teacher or anything, and after a couple of semesters he wisened up and changed some of the policies. But i was already screwed.
Wandering eyes isn't too bad, but if it gets to the point where they start passing around cheat sheets and even mouthing answers and pointing it is just insane(insane how bad they are cheating and how incompetent the test proctor is). Still there aren't many instances were cheating will effect alot of grades, to do that it has to be on a pretty large scale(see above).
But snitching is a really frowned upon thing, but there is a part of me that wishes i would have done something about the instances i believe hurt my final grade, especially now that i want to go to grad school and that C is starring back at me. When grades are based on curves, it just ain't fair.

No. However, if they were trying to cheat off of my paper, and my attempts to conceal my answers didn't deter them, then I might consider ratting him or her out.

here's a question: say a class is graded on a curve, dependent on your fellow classmates' grades. you notice that many are cheating during exams. this will directly hurt you, because it may inflate their grades. do you:

a. tell the professor
b. cheat
c. nothing

If they want to take the easy way out it doesn't affect me. Sometimes it will come back to bite them in the ass so there can be a bit of poetic justice in the whole affair. If they were cheating off MY paper on the other hand I would move it where they couldn't see my answers. I didn't study so some lazy ass can have a free ride.

agreed....i learned this the hard way....luckly the prof knew me (since i came to his office occasionally) and didnt really know the other guy so he knew i was doing the work and came clear that he wasn't (he even copied my obvious mistakes i.e. doodles i made on the page)

That's why morons like you don't become professors :)
You definitely don't want an idiot who has to cheat on tests designing bridges or buildings.

Exactly and I've had this happen before.
