Do you think it is fair to replace a defective, new item with a refurbished item?

Companies offer refurbished items at a discounted price but charge full price for new items. If you pay for a new item and it is defective for some reason, I think you should either be discounted to the refurbished price or have it replaced with a new item. Am I alone in thinking this?

Yes but thats just standard practice... usually first 20-30 days you can get a refund and reorder the item... so you're sure to get a new one.. but still.. its a hassle

"Fair" has nothing to do with it. Fight the power!

If you bought a new item and it breaks or is defective within first 30 days, then you should either get full refund or a brand new unit (after you return the broken one of course). Also, 30 days seems like a sufficient amount of grace period for an item to break or be found defective.

If after 30 days, then you should get a refurb one.
