check your upcoming insurance rates. My gf rate increased for no reason. Their excuse was because of the Toyota recalls.

nope. It was a random $250 increase.

I highly doubt it was due to her owning a Toyota.

I work for an auto insurance carrier in underwriting. If you want to PM me I can try to help find out what the increase was for, but I doubt it was just because she owns a recalled Toyota.

Mine hasn't gone up... and I was assured by my insurance company that the recalls will not affect it. I think you need to get a new insurance company. Problem solved

Sounds like either your insurance company sucks, they are trying to take advantage of your girlfriend, or your girlfriend has a ticket or something that she didn't tell you about.

This whole Toyota stuff is overblown.

THIS. Your GF is a crappy driver. Admitting the truth is the first step...

Crappy drive or not, she has no claims and no tickets. This is Geico BTW. She is working on a quote from Allstate. They said the recalls are not an issue.

Good luck with that. Maybe Geico just sucks as a company. I, personally, have never dealt with them.

Of course it is. The insurance companies will use the hype though as an excuse to scam more money out of their customers.

My insurance often randomly increases, which is why I shop around every 6 months. Was @ $460/6months w/ Progressive, they sent me a renewal for $530, switched to Esurance for $455. In 6 months, I will repeat because Esurance will probably bump my rate up.

So I'm with others that I can't imagine it has anything to do with owning a Toyota.

Odds are her agent told her that's why she went up in premium, because he fucked something up and doesn't want to look bad. It happens fairly regularly when there is a rate increase on a persons policy for some reason, they like to shift the blame to either rate hikes by the company or underwriting or something out of their control.

The recalls should not affect any insurance premium AFAIK. I know with the company I underwrite for that we are not doing anything due to the recalls. PM me if you have any questions, because I do this stuff every day and no auto carrier worth having is going to increase rates due to owning a Toyota. Especially this soon.

Insurance companies make their own rules. I just got a few quotes and afterward my head hurt. One company goes back 2 years, another 3, and yet another 5. One company counts accidents where you weren't at fault another just wants violations. One company gave out points for tickets that could have come from something that didn't even involve driving (impeding traffic) and gave more points than the state on a number of tickets. They say if you've been with the same company for a while chances are that you're not getting your best deal. I think I'll stand pat.

That's kind of odd. Because my older sister is just a year older than I was, and her quotes were much cheaper than mine and she had a slightly newer car.

I was like WTTTF... she said it was due to young males being more wreckless on the road, which I technically find true in some cases, but all those girl texters crashin' into people, I don't know...
