If you oppose what are your reasons against intermarriage (mixed marriages)?

My wife and I are of different nationalities. I don't find a lot of intermarried couples. The anti-intermarriage laws were abolished in 1967. I'm quite surprised how recent that date is. Alabama for example abolished their laws in 2000!!!!!!!!!! Being the fact that only 40 years ago it was illegal to marry someone not of your race. That includes a lot of people still existing that was born before and around that time that have formed their own opinions about the subject.

I don't think that many people are against it, I think that most people are just attracted to people of the same nationality or race.

I'm not opposed to it.

As far as I'm concerned what a man and a woman of different nationalities, or the same nationalities, or a man and a man of the same nationalities, or a man, a man, and a horse of different nationalities, or a woman, a man, a horse, and a midget of the same nationalities does is up to them.

Heh, if a couple can get over the differences between men and women, they can get over the differences between race.

Well I just find it facinating from reading that Alabama abolished their anti-inter-racial marriage law in 2000. Meaning if the govt wanted to they could jail couples who are inter-racial and attempt marriage.

I don?t have a problem with it, and you?re referring to only nationality? I find that the most irrelevant reason to prejudice.

most of the people who I have come across who don't support "interracial" marriage are ignorant and usually say something to the effect "I don't believe in the mixing of the races". Personally, I don't care and find girls of all nationalities attractive and wouldn't mind dating each and every one ;).

Sorry, it should not be any different than two gays whether male or female wanting to get married.

It either all should be all legal or all illegal.

Discrimination is discrimination no matter how you slice it.

I'm pretty sure the law was already invalidated, but Alabama felt little motivation to remove the (defunct) legislation. I would imagine they were one of the states that would have reinstated the ban if given the opportunity (40 years ago, not so much now).

biblically, nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

-moses married a black woman
-Ruth married Boaz

its all good. now mixed-faith-marriages is another matter.

Those are dealt with by the religious groups in question, and wether they are willing to 'recognize' the marriage for god-purposes.

There's an obvious lack of need for legislation of this.

Marry he or she whom you would rather be with than apart from. The rest matters little.

i'm not saying mixed-faith marriages should be illegal, wouldn't want to see legislation about that. its an issue for the church and its members.

I'm actually coming to the conclusion that there should be no limits on marriage whatsoever. Maybe a really high age limit and sterilization for brother/sister stuff.

It wouldn't take much for my position to change to 'the government should allow 'any two people' over the age of majority to be married, and let all restrictions be dealt with by churches and the like, since these are voluntary associations anyway, there shouldn't be any legal implications to refusing to 'serve' someone.

If no church (or other group) that you will have, will have you, go get your bit of paper from the government, and start filing your taxes together.

I don't think people are really against. However, I do believe we are still largely segregated. I mean, my high school class had a little over 230 people. I think we had around ten people who weren't white and not many more who weren't Christian.

I think that as long as these inter-racial couples don't bear offspring it's fine.

Don't tell that to my cracker beloved patriot kids...

The only problem I have with mixed marriages are the bigoted in-laws you ultimately have to deal with.

My family has been better to my husband than his own family ever was... which is probably why my husband PREFERS the company of my clan to the one of his origin. His family looks down on mine... I guess they don't realize the Spanish ruled the world way before the English did.

Any time you mix races/cultures, you have to deal with the ignorance and fear of others. And if that means you grow father apart from a family of bigots, then maybe it is a good thing.

<--been there, done that, and I didn't realize I was a different race! :D
