If you only had one choice, which would it be ?

Where would you go ?

Ok, if you had a single choice...a one time decision to either go back in time or into the future "assuming it was possible" which would you choose ?

Whether to live there forever, or just visit for a bit...doesn't matter.

Back to the past ?

or...

Into the future ?

And do tell why you chose what you did.

Am I assured that I would survive in either situation? i.e. it would suck to go 10,000 years into the future to discover that there's some universal religion on Earth that's going to decide to stone me to death. Assuming I knew that my well-being wouldn't be threatened, I think 10,000 years into the future would be amazing.

Interesting. I'd probably pick the future as well as technology generally makes improvements.

Then again it could be a nuclear mess.

I don't know. Tough question.

Exactly !

That is kind of my point. I am not sure which way I would go myself. I mean, there is a lot of things I could change in the past for the better. But I love technology as well. Like you said, will the earth be a wasteland in the future ? Or will we have Star Trek type stuff. Hey I know, But I am a Star Trek fan.

But any point whether backwards or forwards, length of time doesn't matter. Go back a thousand years ? Million years ? Or simply to last week. The future is limitless as well.

I voted Future because I'm always bummed I'll die before we knowingly encounter extraterrestrials but if the Past was the only train leaving the station I wouldn't bitch. I've definitely got events I've been wishing I could witness.

I think it would be easier to fit in and make a good life for yourself in the past. In the future you would be behind, confused, and your outlook wouldn't be as good.

extrapolation of historical trends suggests that the future will be better. even though it might not be, I know for sure the past sucks.

going to the past is about as exciting as buying the same car to drive again for another 10 years.

If I were to jump 10,000 years in either direction I'd be sucking vacuum as the earth would have moved out of the neighborhood. But given the choice, I'd choose the future. It's so shiny.

According to C.M. Kornbluth if I travel a few thousand years into the future I'll be one of the smartest men alive . . .

. . . working desperately to keep the endless tide of morons from washing away civilization.

Still, the flying cars would be fun.
