How did you fly your stuff?

Being a young bachelor, most of the furnitures I can get rid of. What services did you use and what do you recommend?

How do you also ship your car?

Packed up what I really wanted/needed until the car was full. Threw out, sold, or gave away everything that was left. Got in car, started engine, put transmission into D and pressed down on the gas pedal?

Had Door to Door Moving drop off several crates at my house. Packed them myself. They picked them up and drove them cross country.

Put what I needed to live for a couple of weeks into my SUV and drove with my three dogs cross country.

moved from texas to east coast

disassembled my desk, put it in the trunk or my car. put my clothes and other everyday necessities on top of that. put the turtle and her tank in the backseat, tucked the computer tower and monitor behind the seats. drove over in two days, found a place and bought a bed.

rented a room in someone's house so i didnt need any housewares. cheap and easy.

^^^ this its the cheapest way. Plus i think if you reserve in the winter time its cheaper (even if you are moving spring summer)

I drove 12,000 miles on my 63-day cross country road trip (boston -> keywest -> texas -> LA -> SF -> Chicago -> home).

I got the driving out of my system, otherwise I would move via driving.

What to do with my car?

Company transfer - Lock, Stock, and Barrel.

They bought my house in California, packed the furniture and belongings, including the car,
then flew the whole family to Orlando - put us on lodging and per deim for 90 days,
and paid the closing costs on the house we bought including $ 5,000 in property incidentals -
fencing, carpeting, and kitchen tile installation.

It was really rough.

my parents moved from Oregon -> NH -> Oregon -> NJ... so, 3 cross-country moves all in all.

the first move, my mom, my sister, and I moved into an apartment in NH while my dad attempted to sell our house. house couldn't sell, so we moved back.

for the second and final move, they loaded up a u-haul and hit the road. we had 3 drivers total (my mom, my dad, and my dad's friend) for the u-haul plus my parents' sedan. took about a week.

I sublet my apartment in Rochester, NY, sold off all of my furniture and my car, and shipped a few boxes of personal items (my bicycle and some electronics and records) via UPS and flew out to Los Angeles with a suitcase full of clothes...that was 20 years ago.

I would rent a truck from Uhaul, and a trailer to tow my car, then move all my shit 1 way

That said ... I don't live on a coast ... and I've never moved from or to a coast.

I've moved this way a couple of times. The Uhaul fleet is getting better than it was 30-40 years ago, but you still need to be picky when getting your truck. People just don't fucking care about rentals...and often, the rental places don't care either. (it's your ass who might get stranded...so pay close attention to what you rent)

As a kid, the US government sent a moving van to the house when we had to move...and they did everything...packing, loading, driving...and there were a couple of times where they managed to fuck stuff up for us.

In the OP's situation...sell off the furniture and large stuff that you don't really need/want to keep. Give the stuff that doesn't sell to Salvation Army/Goodwill/ other thrift shop and keep the receipt for tax purposes...load the essentials in your car and drive.

we would get a truck/trailer then pack it as full as we could. everything that didn't fit got left.

of course we would have a garage sale and try to get rid of everything.

Uhaul will price yoi a trip with some additional mileage. If problems develop - contact them.

I pulled my daughter's household from Las Vegas to Denver in a 26ft truck
UHaul budgeted 800 miles using I15 to I70

Snowstorm forced me to take the I40 route through New Mexico.
Called the UHaul # on the truck and explained the situation.
They modified the contract for an extra 200 miles and 1 day driving. - No extra charge

All my personal moving has been paid for - drove personal vehicles (1 or 2) and the household was picked up by professional movers along with extra vehicles.
