If you make everyone pay more taxes, then won't they become more dependent.

I think it's the Republicans who are at fault for possible tax increases since they're suggesting everyone pay taxes. They love revenue more than the Democrats do honestly and there is nothing to suggest otherwise since they're always saying "tax cuts will pay for themselves", "tax consumption instead", rather than saying something like "govt should use force as little as possible".

Also, if the poor pay more in taxes, then won't that revenue just go back to the poor? Won't it discourage them from working? Won't it make them be more likely to ask for govt assistance when a recession hits due to them having less savings? Won't it give them the illusion that they're "entitled" to shit like SS tax payers have been given?

Why do so many tax payers care whether poor people pay taxes if poor people work and contribute to society? Poor people may have decided to do a lot of good work for a small fee. Suppose a poor non-working person makes other people happier without paying taxes?

Why don't we just repeal the whole damn current tax system and have a voluntary 10% flat rate income tax? If we did that, then we'd see how few would want govt.

The whole GOP tax issue is based on myth and not on reality. And the flat tax won't work, if anything the rich would want that even more. And if we go to a tax only on buying stuff, the rich would want THAT even more. After all, 100 people buying 100 Chevy's would give a FAR bigger tax revenue than ONE rich guy buying a Ferrari. No, flat tax sounds good, but in reality it would lead to even more inbalance. We just need to go straight back to the tax rates we had under Clinton, it worked, and we had a balanced budget and we got our debt under control. Then the Bush years started, and we see what we got from that.....Get rid of the tax loopholes and increase taxes slightly on dividends as well. People like Romney don't make money from "income", they make it from paying shit in taxes on dividends and investments and pillaging companies when they can.

The Clinton tax rate for capital gains (20% after 1997) was roughly half the top income tax rate (39.6%) so your two points contradict each other.
