If you make $70k/yr is a $400 Christmas bonus a slap in the face?

I helped make a company I worked for save $500,000 in missed billing fees that their accounting dept. completely missed. I was able to on my own negotiate with the client and get them to agree to pay for the missed fees as long as they were billed promptly. Over the course of several months, I audited our entire client case load and fixed everything.

That year, everyone in the company got $100.00 christmas bonus. It was like a 50 person company.

THAT was a slap in the face.

I (and everyone in our company) have no pay raise and no bonus for the last couple years. I am sure there are others in the US are in the same boat. Stop complaining.

If the OP thought it was a slap in the face, he could have turned it down.

Um... My salary > yours.

My Christmas bonus..? Got a $50.00 gift card to WalMart. Like others have said.. Stop bitching.

Same here, no bonus at all for Christmas. I get bonuses, but those are based on performance metrics.

i received a christmas bonus 1 year out of my 15-16 years of employment. you should consider yourself fucking lucky that you even get one.

fucking entitled fucks in this fucking country

if you don't want it, i'll take it off your hands.

just because my bonus is meager doesn't mean i wan't to give it away

Are you sure that's your holiday (annual?) "bonus" and not just a holiday gift? Everyone here gets a $500 Amex gift card for the holidays, but it has no relation to the annual performance based bonus.

A few people have commented that the $500 gift cards are laughable, and the CEO & Directors should be embarrassed giving them out. Different positions, titles, and industries come with different expectations as to what acceptable gifts and/or bonuses are. Investment bankers would probably laugh in your face then wipe their ass with a $500 gift card.

This is a "gift" and not a bonus, i.e. no taxes.

I have several employees that make about that salary. The lowest bonus I just handed out was $500, to a guy that has been here less than a month. All the other bonuses were in the $1k to $4k range.

I'm guessing no one in this thread has never had their expectations exceed reality? Not necessarily in terms of money, but anything.

No bonuses, and no raises for the last 6 years. They blamed the economy, then when business came back better than ever...still no bonuses or raises. They pretend they are still doing badly. Oh well.

When I was making 80k, my (as everyone else's) bonus was some lame gift. I wouldn't complain about $400. Did they give the same to everyone?
Previous 2 years, my bonus was about 2.5% of my salary.. but I won't be getting one at all this year.
In conclusion, $400 is not a slap in the face.

I'd take a $100 bonus for ANYTHING, whether it be a holiday, merit-based, "you got this done when it should have been impossible," say nothing to $400. I'd be THRILLED with $400.

A 0.5% bonus? You should quit.

Edit: Hell, now that I think about it, I have gotten bigger bonuses working internships.

For all you saying, "I never got one so don't complain" keep in mind that annual bonuses are pretty common practice in some industries and not so much in others.

Is christmas bonus = annual bonus here?

Or does the OP get a christmas bonus AND an annual bonus?

if former, then $500 for doing nothing is awesome. If latter then reasonable reason to complain if bonuses are expected as part of compensation.

I meant annual bonus but (for me) they are always given out very close to X-mas so it kind of kills two birds with one stone.
