TBH I'd probably still do trips to grocery store and to town in general, but simply cutting out hydro, gas, and the high taxes of the city would save quite a lot of money, though being further from town would kind of force me to learn to cook more instead of eating prepped food or take out. I do want to grow some of my own food too though. I would have excessive solar power in summer because the days are long, so I'd probably do a lot of my growing then. A mix of outdoor and indoor growing. And indoor only in winter. I need to start on that soon actually, could do it even here so that I can get good at it.

It would also force me to do some work as living off grid obviously requires a certain level of work. Battery maintenance would need to be done at least once a month for example. Probably even more often. I have a feeling once I retire I'll become complacent and sit around and do nothing, so I'll want to force myself not to do that. Even now I kinda do that when I have stretches of time off... It's kinda bad actually.
I have the same problem with being on disability. I'm not active as I used to be.

meaning you can't make any more than that, would you be happy with that job or would you try to go into something else to start from scratch and hopefully make 300 to 500K 10-20 years down the line?

this is assuming you live in a reasonable cost of living area. A beautiful 3000 sqr foot house here is 350K. I'm not in California where a nice house is 900K

I'm wondering this because I sell cars for a living and I'm never gonna make more than maybe 150 to 190K unless I become a GM and I have no interest in doing that. Even my sales directors make less than me and that job in itself would take maybe 15 years of promotions to get to (no thanks)

edit: I meant to say 10-20 years down the line, not a year down the line
If money is important to you, why would you limit yourself?

did you not read the thread?

I really can't make any more than what I make unless I go to a different industry, which involves tremendous amount of risk/starting from scratch/etc...

I want to make a lot of money but I also want it to be very easy for me.

What level car brands then?

Chevy/Ford level

Mercedes/BMW level

Ferrari/Lamborghini level

Etc.

chevy/ford level

High end dealerships are not what you think it is. High end customers are a complete pain in the ass. The best customer is the blue collar guy buying a 20K 6 year old pickup truck

High end customers take forever to make up their mind, shop and beat you down on price endlessly and are incredibly demanding about how they get treated. The blue collar guy buying a used pick up truck is usually very easy to deal with and very grateful about your service

Any guy who comes in and wants a 60K vehicle, I cringe instantly because I know they're gonna be a pain in the ass.

dude I've made 120K+ for 6 years in a row and I'm making more and more every year. It's not like my skills or talent level are gonna decrease...they only get stronger

I also work at a fantastic dealership, one of the best in the country.

But I do want to save a lot of money...I just hate having say 100K in bank account not earning any interest

wtf don't you open a brokerage account earning real interest? or an IRA? what kind of idiot keeps a savings account with more than ~$5k stashed in there?

what are you doing, saving up for a dozen bushels of Lego heads?

Damnit! I knew I wasn't hard enough on my salesman! I just asked what price and accepted what they said. He seemed kinda surprised I was going ahead with it.

I don't want to do cold calling or prospecting though

My job is so unbelievably easy dude you have no idea. I'm gonna make 20K this month and half my deals were people who came in and asked for me (which are super easy deals)

Well you aren't going to get a new job making more money that is super easy, dude.

I'm terrified to say because of internet detectives

Seems like you are terrified of virtually all forms of risk. From being refected by a girl to investing money and now you are asking if you should give up a guaranteed 180K/year job for the possibility of a 300K/year job? You'd never take the risk even if every last person in this thread told you it was a great idea and proved it to a respectable degree.

serious questions:

1) Why do you take pictures of yourself like some teenage girl? ...and you still wonder why they don't talk to you?
2) Why are you so awful at taking pictures?--look at how you frame yourself to look even smaller than you actually are--and you still wonder why you have problems?

1) I don't. I have like 6 pictures of myself. I absolutely hate pictures

2)I dunno buddy. When you say smaller, you mean height wise? i'm 5'10 200 lbs. I'm not a small man by any means. You can see the forearms popping out in that picture

this is the kind of bullshit you deal with when you work at a high end dealership...people who take fucking forever to make up their mind

Give me 5-20K used car customers all day long...best customers by far. I can get vast majority to buy on the spot

Oh I believe it. Or people that sign all the papers, make you do all the paperwork on your side... then it does not go through the bank because turns out they don't pay their bills and have horrible credit. Or people that change their mind at the VERY last minute once all the papers are done.

Just hearing stories from my dad makes me realize I would hate being in sales of any kind. Except working sales for IBM sounds like a good gig, you can sell a piece of software to Canada for 1 billion dollars and it does not even have to work. :p

So how much commission would a salesperson get for selling say a $220K car?

So how much commission would a salesperson get for selling say a $220K car?

every pay plan is different. I don't really have much experience with super high end cars like that. The most expensive car I've ever sold was 85K and I only made 200 dollars because the guy negotiated the price down to nothing

Most places base commission on how much profit is in a deal. The guy I sold 85K car negotiated it down to 76 (which is zero profit deal) so I made 200 - a flat "mini"

Most of the time on 80K cars, you'll make more money selling their trade in than you will on the car itself. Most rich people are very cheap and a total pain in the ass to deal with. Usually they'll trade in like a 10 year old nice SUV that you can sell used and make a 700-900 dollar commission on

On your car, if there is say 20,000 profit...he probably made about 5K...but that may have been the only car he sold all month. My game is volume - I sell about 30 cars a month and I average about 500 a car so I make about 15K a month

I close people at a huge percentage but a lot of that is my experience. I can smell out problems early on and fix it before it kills a deal

I build rapport very fast so customers feel comfortable buying from me

I'm good at building urgency so they buy on the spot

5'10" is small. It's like freak level. I'm astonished that you weren't tossed off the mountain as a newborn.
