If you live alone: any tips on keeping milk a long time?

Now that I have my own place, I don't use milk very often, but I like to keep it around. Unfortunately, it goes bad before I finish it.

I can afford to buy a quart of milk, but I don't like waste. Any tips? I hate powdered milk (wierd taste) and I tried some of that milk-in-a-box, which is okay for cereal but then I have to throw the rest of that out too, so it's not much of a solution.

 

I buy a gallon a week and use it for a bowl of cereal a day, plus I usually have a glass or two with some cookies after dinner. It's not hard to use it up. Just drink more of it.

If you are having problems not going through a quart of milk a week, is will not be very efficient to try and be cheap about it.

Most milk will last 2 weeks in a fridge without a problem.

I just buy a big box of powdered milk. Yeah it tastes funky if you just drink it but in food which is the only thing I use milk in I can't tell any difference. One box last me a little over a year and cost I think $12. I got tired of throwing away 3/4s of the liquid milk I bought.

What kind of milk are we talking about??? Milk stops tasting fresh about 2 days after being opened (yes, kept in the fridge) and is normally undrinkable after 4, maybe 5 at the most... Just buy smaller containers of milk and don't open them until you need to use them.

actually depending on what store you buy from, milk can last 1.5 weeks after the "sell by" date. sell by date and exipiration date are two different things.

keep your fridge at its coldest setting. if your milk only tastes fresh for 4 days, you need a new fridge.

although if you have to question, just throw it out.
