If you leave a DVD player on will it mess it up?

If you leave it on for long periods of time and forget to turn it off for a few hours does it mess up? The sound on ours doesn't work now, but everything else works fine.

I usually leave mine one and haven't had any problems.
Are you using it through a home theater setup ?
Double check the wiring.

After a movie is done I never turned the thing off I just switched back to the t.v and simply forgot to turn it off. Now my brother is saying it's my fault for never turning it off. Why would the sound go out, but still be able to play videos if this was the case?

My DVD player is almost always on. Seriously, I never turn it off, it is 3 years old, and works perfectly fine.

It doesnt hurt the DVD player, it does give it more time to phone home and report to big brother how much porn you have been watching.

One of my old roomates never turned off the damn dvd player. And it kept playing the menu animations over and over again. Ya, it lasted only 6 months. Glad I didn't pay for it.

Check and make sure someone didn't accidentally unplug the sound by mistake. Remember that the video is most likely being carried over component cables or over an s-video link, whereas the sound is most likely just your standard red and white sound.
